Metal Tabby

Now that I have found supporting pics of natural metal L2Ds being used in the
Pacific I am need of some kind of at least fairly authentic tail markings. Anyone have any info. Talos, where are yoooo :kilroy:!!!

I don't have Talos's knowledge of IJN aircraft, but I think you'd be safe to use a Japanese katakana alphabet letter for an air group ID, like "ka" for Kanoya or "yo" for Yokosuka (see below), followed by a dash and a one or two digit number. Maybe black or red color. L2D2's were used for station hacks pretty much like the USN R4D's - which were basically the same aircraft. :icon_lol:
I'd like to see Talos back on the forums, not just because of his knowledge but because he's always willing to share it and keep the rest of us straight. Maybe if he's lurking out there he'll check in.

OW,

Sometime a go, I did some research on the Tabby. Seems like only three IJN Kokutai flew the plane if my memory serves me.

I found these photos on the internet, but neither seems to show any marking on the tail. My CFS 2 Tabby is from the 1021 Kokutai and has these tail markings. I can't verify their authenticity though.

No need for major rivet counting here, looks good to me. Hell, that pic of the metal 'Tabby' might even be an imported DC-2 or 3. My thinking is that in the early months of the war there wouldn't be any real need for the Japanese to paint the non-combative types of aircraft. Of course, L2Ds probably came off the line sporting green livery like practically every IJNAF bird after late 1943.

OW,
Talos painted these skins for the Tabby, so I'd bet money that they are correct.
Talos really does his homework. :d Look at this shot of a L2D, notice the swallow logo on the vertical stab like the Omura NAS skin in your post.
