A good day to everybody! :ernae:

Every now and then I read threads written by people looking for Mauro Giacomazzi's aircrafts, released back in 2002 and sadly lost during either SOH's past HDD crash or hacker attacks.

On last Friday I uploaded Mauro's entire Hurricane and Bf109 series, after Rami sorted them out, I can happily announce Mauro's creations are back to SOH among the new library files.

All of the uploads are 99.9% original works I downloaded from Mauro's website, long since gone. The 0.1% comes from the fact that I consolidated all of Mauro's Hurries uploads in one pack. At the time, Mauro uploaded textures and common files separately to meet download speed issues.
Furthermore, Mauro's Bf109F-4 flown by Gruppenkommodore G.F. von Malzthan and Hurricane MkIIC night fighter have their *.mdl with reduced collision bubble and modified shine effects by me, as I could not find the originals anymore.

All of Mauro's models feature: full CFS2 standard animations including working shock absorbers, radiator cooling flaps and, in the navalised Hurricanes, working arrestor hooks. The folding wings key (CTRL-F) opens up the cowlings and shows the engines, while Mauro's Bf109's have automatic slat deployment.

Besides, break parts and multi-LOD, Mauro paid great attention to framerate performance. With nowadays computing power, they offer astonishing fps AI performance and can be displayed in huge formations.

Mauro's Hurricanes are:

  • Hurricane MkI, equipped with Watts propeller, of RAF/BEF 87th Sqn, Lilla/Seclin France 1940.
  • Hurricane MkIA of 56th Fighter Squadron, Rochford, England, August 1940.
  • Hurricane MkIIC of 247th Fighter Squadron Night, England 1943.
  • Hurricane MkIIB Trop of 73rd Squadron Western Desert Air Force, Lybia 1942.
  • Hurricane MkIIC Trop of 87th Fighter Squadron Western Desert Air Force, Egypt 1942.
  • Hurricane MkIID Trop "tankbuster" of 6th Squadron Western Desert Air Force, Lybia 1942. This aircraft was lethal to the Axis panzers during the Battle of El Alamein and the subsequent Afrika Korp retreat.
  • Hurricane MkIIC Trop of RAF South East Asia Command 34th Squadron, Palel 1944.
  • Sea Hurricane MkIA "Hurricat" of 804th Sqdn., carried on HMS Maplin, North Atlantic convoy, 1941. This Hurri was built purposedly to be catapulted off Ground Crew's CAMship.
  • Sea Hurricane MkIB of 801st Squadron on board HMS Victorious during "Operation Pedestal" convoy, 1942.
  • Sea Hurricane MkIIC "Nickie" of 853rd Fighter Squadron Fleet Air Arm, on board HMS Nairana, North Atlantic 1944.

Mauro's Bf109's are:

  • Messerschmitt Bf109E-4N "Black Gallon and Bars", equipped with the DB601N engine, of Stab Staffel / 26th Jagdgeschwader "Schlageter", Audembert, France 1940. Flown during the Kanalkampf by the Geschwaderkommodore Adolf Galland.
  • Messerschmitt Bf109E-7 Trop "Black Eight with Red borders" of III Staffel (Jabo Staffel) / 27th Jagdgeschwader, Martubah, Lybia 1942.
  • Messerschmitt Bf109F-4 "Black Gallon and Bar", flown by JG.53 Gruppenkommodore Gunther Freiherr von Malzthan, Comiso, Sicilia, during the 1942 battle for Malta.
  • Messerschmitt Bf109F-4 Trop "Yellow 14", 3rd Staffel / 27th Jagdgeschwader, North Africa, 1942. Flown by the Staffelkapitan Hans-Joachim Marseille "The Star of Afrika".

Let me also inform you that nice, historical repaints for Mauro's models can be found here, at Flightsim.com (even VVS Russian skins for the tanbuster MkIID Trop!), Avsim.com and Simviation.com

SOH's member Sopwith Chameleon painted a nice collection of historical skins for Mauro's Hurries about three years ago, they can be found here: http://sopwithc.wetpaint.com

If anyone is interested I can upload dps updated with better looking payloads than the stock ones, updated propeller blurred discs and gauge-controlled exhaust effects.

Enjoy!

Hi Kelti,

Thank you (and Rami) for your time and effort on this restore project! I enjoy Mauro's planes as the get awesome frame rates on my old computer, not to mention they still look pretty good too.

This is great Kelti. I have a few of Mauro's AC, but this is like Christmas. And, yes, please do upload your dps and props. I always use your props if I can get 'em. Thanks!

Errata corrige

You are all welcome!

My memory banks every now and then betray me. I wrote about Sopwith Chameleon's nice Hurricane repaint packs over at his website, but I was wrong. They have been here all along, instead, and you can find them here:

Mauro's Sea Hurricane pack:

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=58&id=1204

Mauro's Hurricane MkII pack (trop and regular):

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=58&id=1207

Mauro's Hurricane MKI pack:

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=58&id=1202

SC's repaints replace the outdated original skins so nicely that Mauro's Hurries all look like new models!

I also forgot to point out that, in SC's Hurricane MkII collection, you can find temperate daylight camouflage skin for Mauro's MkIIC night fighter (Dark Green/Ocean Grey). That allows you to have a daylight 4 x 20 mm Hispano cannon-armed Hurricane, which was the precursor of the Typhoon for ground attack missions on the Continent.

It was actually the very successfull cannon armed Hurricane who determined the definitive Typhoon fixed armament, since the Typhoon prototype was still armed with 12 x .303" machine guns, not as devastating as the 20 mm cannon.

Moreover: all of Mauro's Hurries are version 3.0, except from the SEAC MkIIC Trop and the Sea Hurri MkIIC. Mauro mdl changes were very subtle from the version 3.0 to the version 3.1, but the texture mappings remained the same. So, I successfully replaced my African Front/Russian export MkIIC Trop version 3.0 with the Far East v. 3.1 with no problems, should you wish to do the same.

Cheers!

Where?

I searched the CFS2 download and also the new entries but can't find the Hurricane or Me 109 Packs.Where can I get them?

Pilots: one more suggestion

Another feature of Mauro's aircraft is the pilot loaded on the plane as a payload in the [PAYLOAD] section of each aircraft dp file.

Mauro provided German, US and British pilot figures for his aircrafts, where the light kaki overall worn by the US pilot replaced the cold climate RAF blue flight suit for the tropical Hurricanes. According to him, and to many other CFS2 gurus here as well, a pilot figure separated from the aircraft model improves framerates.

If needs be, I can reupload Mauro's pilots as well, but I have a different suggestion to make.

Mauro's pilot figures are designed as "aircrafts" and they must be installed in CFS2 \AIRCRAFT root folder, thus taking up a spot that could be utilised for a real aircraft, instead, with the well known CFS2 total aircraft # limit always ready to create havoc. The aircrafts can be flown with empty cockpits, but annoying errors for missing payload entries are generated everytime.

My suggestion is to use one of the several pilot figures, available here at SOH, created as true "payloads" instead of "aircrafts". I replaced successfully all Hurricane pilots with Martin Wright's RAF figures, and used Wolfi's Helldiver US pilot for German and tropical pilots.

If anyone has problems with editing Mauro's dp files to accomodate Martin Wright's and/or Wolfi's pilot figures, I can attach each dp entry here. When my update packs will be ready, they will include new pilot figure entries as well.

Cheers!
