"Dorn enjoys flying, something he was not permitted to do while in The Next Generation but was apparently able to do after joining the cast of Deep Space Nine. He has flown with the Blue Angels as well as the Thunderbirds. Dorn has owned several aircraft, including a T-33 Shooting Star, an F-86 Sabre, and currently owns a North American Sabreliner. The T-33 was often referred to as "his starship." Michael Dorn also serves on several organizations, one of which is the Air Force Heritage Foundation"

I heard Michael had to sell his 'Starship' jet fighter. From what I heard, he really didnt want to.

That news is kind of old now. From what I have heard, he has a small fleet of biz jets, at least 2, but I think he was at 3 several years back. He was on a brilliant documentary on the History channel on Business Jets. He loves to fly...

Michael Dorn did a neat guest editorial article in Plane & Pilot a while back too.

I knew he was another of those flying stars, but til reading it didn't know that he has/had that big of a collection. I'd take any one of his toys over Travolta's old Boeing any day! :d
 
I've seen Michael's old F-86... He sold it to Frank Boreman who had it fully restored. When Michael had the plane it was still in it's S. African AF paint. it's rumored to have seen combat sometime in the 70's.

It's the F-86 that Ed Shiply flies. He stopped by our shop one day with the Sabre on the way back from an airshow in Quebec. He didn't have any US money so I loaned him a buck to get a soda. Got a USAF Heritage Flight Patch out of the deal.

Other than a google search. Look at an old episode of Chips... Michael was on that show. He was Officer Jebediah Turner (7-David). That's how Mr. Dorn really looks.
 
Actually his first acting 'gig' was as Apollo Creed's (Carl Weathers) bodyguard in "Rocky"...


Hah, apparently no one else saw the REALLY short lived show called "Celebrity Wings" several years ago.
Michael Dorn was one of the first celebrities interviewed on the show.
It had celebrity pilots and their planes.
Bobby Allison and Dennis Quaid were on it too, then I think it got canned.
Was TLC, or Discovery Channel...

I've known for many years he was a pilot, complete with type ratings in several business jets.

AOPA has written a few articles on him and he has appeared on a few television documentary style shows which talked about his flying.

Dorn is one of the Hollywood actors who has his head screwed on right and tight. I'd love to meet the guy and talk airplanes with him!

Rich is rarely what people think they are, it is most often branded on them by others. Very few people think they are rich. If you are like most of the people on the planet (living in a largely third world country) then you must be rich if you own an ultralight. To that end, I'm sure there are people that think you're rich because you have a Cessna 310.

I'm not rich, but I've spent probably 50-60 thousand on flight training. To afford flight training, I had to sacrifice nearly everything WHILE in a job that paid great. I would never tell someone to "get after it" or that they "don't need to be rich to be a pilot" because for many who could never afford it or be eligible for a loan much less go to school and get a commission, it's almost like rubbing it in their face.
