Micro$oft's Latest Trick

Guys, I saw this new utility several weeks ago and found that it really, really does work! In mere seconds it has removed all of the Win10 nonsense from my sim machine. It will also re-enable Win10 if and when you decide to take the plunge!

GWX Control Panel

Neat utility. Thanks Bill! I used a boot disk (parted magic) to killl the GWX folder and so far that seems to have done the trick. I did install gwx stopper program and ran it, just to see what it said. It reports "the coast is clear", more or less.

Just as a side note... It makes me wonder why Microsoft is so eager to give Windows 10 away, or in many cases, force folks to install it. When was the last time you all can remember when Microsoft gave any of their many versions of OS for PC away? Still, Joe Bob summed it up quite well, "However brief the victory may be".

Thanks again Bill, for the link. Think it will be OK to run on Windows 7 Pro? Just curious...

I think the push for 10 has a lot to do with it's unprecedented ability to feed back your personal information to MS.

And therefore, anyone else who either buys it or just takes it. My future is a combo of Linux and win7. By the time that doesn't work, I will be past caring:untroubled:

Got the GWX Stopper. Thanks for the heads up. My Win 7 Pro was just beginning to bug me, Hadn't actually tried to download anything yet. I certainly don't want it to, this prevents that nicely.
Thanks
Sue

Got the GWXStopper also, as I just finished reformatting and returning my wife's computer to WIN7. The latest WIN10 update completely crashed hers. Windows would not start, period. It would gather info, then try to start, then fail, over and over. Managed to use Windows backup files program from BIOS boot to save her stuff, then reinstall from original partition. After two days of reinstalling necessary programs, she's happy it's working, anyway. We did lose all her contact info from her Address book. Can't find it anywhere.
