Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 | You can finally download everything in the sim!

I think it has been that way for a while. I pretty much have everything, except a few things like challenges and aircraft I never fly. Hi Butch!

I just now found out about this. I thought it was always cloud connected. Hey Pete!
I got the impression this was news. Wonder how much room is needed for this one.

I had it all installed before SU4. It took about 1.25 TB of data. I decided I didn't need the whole FS world, just the US and Europe, well western Europe. It's down to about a 1 TB load now. I also kept all the aircraft, hoping to help populate the AI traffic a bit.

The issue I noticed is each SU gets a wee bit bigger, like 40-50 GB, so I didn't see the need to take all night each update. Your mileage may vary though, depending on what you feel is important.

Thanks for the reply. So what size HD do you use to load the sim on and is it internal SSD? Looks like prices have come down a tad on them. I
would guess maybe a 2 TB would be big enough?

One of the things that has put me off from getting '24 was the fact that stock aircraft could not be tweaked. Are the downloaded aircraft still encrypted like the deluxe/premium 2020 planes are?

Yes they are, unfortunately. I think there used to be an FS20 dodge where you could install the encrypted aircraft on a different hard drive to the sim itself and this removed the encryption somehow, but I never tried it so I'm probably wrong on that.

In fact encrypted FS24-native MODULAR aircraft CAN be modded relatively easily, I've done it to quite a few...
Mostly fuel-system changes of use to FSEconomy users so not generally available but I 'fixed' the fuel flow issues of the EC135, on fs.to.

Using the [MODULAR_MERGE] Auto=true construct you only need to have the lines you want to change in your mod CFG file.

You need to use the SDK VFSFileProjector tool to understand the file structure to position your mod file into, and sometimes you can get the flight_model.cfg file even for non-base aircraft, which is a bonus.

As to downloading FS24 files I see no benefit in it at all...

I did indeed use a 2TB internal SSD NVMe. Lightening fast access, IMO. the 4TB are still pretty pricey, for me anyway.

I did so because I didn't want the stuttering on long flights or reliance on cloud access. Also, although internet speeds are very high in Korea, they are not so great into some area's I travel too. All a personal choice. I disliked the fact that before I purchased, Asobo was not very transparent regarding using a cloud server to access the sim. Reviewing many of the original reviews on Steam, many were dismayed with that fact as well, for similar reasons.

But, if you are homebound and have great internet speeds, you're right, there's no benefit, unless your internet goes down and you're conducting a long flight. In which case, maybe a saved flight on the now inaccessible cloud? I am pretty certain I can save anytime during my flight on the downloaded terrain I have installed. Just all comes down to personal preference and hardware limitations I suppose.

Tweaked? I don't understand......

It seems that several dev's, including Asobo, conveniently forget that some people still use a twist stick for steering. So without either increasing the steering angle in the flight model cfg or enabling diff braking in the systems cfg, all your left with is as little as 13° steering on some planes. The C172 Steam version is one of those. It's OK at a large airport with plenty of room, but try getting around at W88 or TNCS - it ain't happening...

Have you tried the default toe brake commands for FS20, Tom:
Left Brake: Num *
Right Brake: Num -
Assuming that diff braking is already enabled in the systems.cfg, of course.
