MiG-25 - Awesome freeware jet from Hadhart

DennyA

SOH-CM-2023
There's an awesome new freeware MiG-25 in the Sim-Outhouse library, created by hadhart. The plane has a very nice level of detail, and with the updated flight model, very impressive performance. It includes a full virtual cockpit with custom Russian (Cyrillic) instruments!

Download it now here!

Thanks so much for this awesome plane, hadhart! Can't wait to see your Kikka!

* I know the plane was announced in the "Kiev,MiG-25,Kikka" topic, but that one might be missed by people not realizing the plane is actually out. So I created this topic so that Hadhart's awesome MiG-25 would have its own topic and, hopefully, could get a sticky from the mods so folks don't miss this great plane!

Cag40Navy or other wonderful S-O mods, any chance this thread could be made sticky? This plane seriously deserves it. :)

Hadhart, one request for a future update: Would love to have a version with missiles, like the old Hasegawa model I built of this in the 70s!

thanks for making this thread, Denny! :mixedsmi:
well, we've never modeled any missiles before... can you show us your hasegawa model with its missiles?

Haven't flown it yet, but thanks anyways for spending (probably) hundreds of hours on this bird!

Your L-39 is very cool as well!

the vc is quite 'plain', i suppose if someone can make better textures for it, it would be much more amazing. :wiggle:

Personally, I like the option of a clean (current) model, but I appreciate that some will also appreciate the missiles modded in. For modelling accuracy, you'll likely want to have a pair of the R-40R (semi-active radar) and a pair of the R-40T (infrared). Each has a slightly different nose.

I've seen a couple of photos of 4 x R, but I've never seen a loadout of 4 x T. Mostly, I believe it was 2 x R on the outboard pylons, and 2 x T on the inboard. Don't have my resource materials on this at the moment - others may want to chime in and correct/concur.

I agree - a VC retexture and this would take an already awesome product to a whole new level of exciting Soviet era aircraft. A few nice repaint opportunities too.

Speaking of repaints, since the R/RB was exported a fair bit (in Foxbat terms), any chance of a recce nose version? Even if the VC stayed the same (which in real life would be different in the non-radar version), you'd have a few exciting options. I believe most of the Mig-25P/PD/PDS customers purchased a few of the B/RB models. I agree the two-seater PU/RU would be nice too.

Again - thanks so much - after the Blinder C - this is my favourite Soviet era plane. Kudos is well deserved on this project.

Playing with the noise filters on the VC textures could improve things somewhat.

Bump maps for the cockpit might also work.

anyone want to make some repaints?? :wavey:

Some constructive criticism:

Try to keep fuselage textures in one piece instead of six to seven for better repaintability. Getting e.g. a camo pattern on the external model is a lot harder when you've got the fuselage textures in parts.

Also, try to make use of 2048*2048 size textures. They offer a lot more room for the textures of the parts and decease the use of materials on the model which in turn maximizes efficiency in terms of PC resource usage.

Just saying.

i think it'd be better if the vc is not the same, although not as real as the real one, may be by just removing the radar screen to make it different :jump:

well, less textures means less job to be done, i suppose- it's a good idea! :mixedsmi:

I guess Jafo means (Fox)-Bat.

This looks interesting. I will check it out. This is may favourite russian aircraft. Just brute force! Thank you hardhart!:applause:

I think I need a bit of guidance please, when I click on any of the attachment links I get this message.

Yes....Fox-bat...;)
One thing needs adding [I did it for myself]....you didn't update a Mig25_2_t_spec.dds for the spec shine on the missiles. Without it they look pretty horrid.....almost luminous white.
Only took a few moments to fix....;)

I allways had a spec display glitch with this one, so I never got to have a good look at it. Lovely, in a hairy, sweaty sort of way! Really frikkin nice, in fact! All working great, the R40 armed version looks the bomb, Well done Hadhart!:salute::salute: Tough to fly it inside that 2.5 G limit though. Good thing it'll take a 11+ G transient, though I've scrapped half a regiment's worth today from over gee!
