Military Flying

When I first got into FS9 (from Flight Unlimited & Pro-Pilot), everything was Military. No time for low and slow, no time for anything that went less than 300kts. I had the "Need for Speed". By the time FSX rolled around I had worn myself thin on Fighters and Transports and started actually flying a little slower and a little lower. FSX was a whole new world with massive autogen coverage and much sharper ground textures. . .plus actual moving traffic on the highways. . .wow.

Well, it seems I've come full circle. Now that the computer is relatively stable and both FSX and FS9 are installed on their separate drives I've started loading FS9 up with all the MAIW packages that weren't worth messing with in FSX. The Phantom, C-130, F-16, F-18 and a lot more of my old favorites from the FS9 days are back and I'm doing hops and long flights (X-country) and stopping at various bases along the way. Visiting places I've been to or was stationed at and a few that my son is now a part of. Great stuff!

Hey falcon409, "great stuff", have to agree. Seems I've been doing a lot of the same lately and really enjoying it! Been learning how to wright AI flight plans in combination with using MAIW air bases, AFACDS and models. Lately have been populating my nearest major airbase, Dobbins AFB/NAS Atlanta (KMGE), home to Lockheed Martin Georgia, and where I spent most of my hitch with the Georgia Army National Guard.

Great shots, guys.

Although I've moved over to FSX and enjoy it a lot, I really miss the military scenery that I have in my FS9 install. I find it ironic that there are a lot of military payware and freeware FSX aircraft, but very, very little addon military scenery. :kilroy:

I really enjoy the MAIW addons in FS9, but have no incentive to convert them to FSX. I kinda wish someone else would take on that challenge and make the conversation available to those of us who are somewhat technically challenged...:isadizzy:

I am rebuilding my 1990's East Germany at the moment and have been enjoying flying some heli's and Mig's over past few days, and have rediscovered some old fav's.

Nice work "Duckie" and that's something I once had a slight grasp of (AI Flight Plans) and then let it slip away. Gotta get that back as there are several bases (KNFW for one) that are in dire need of some traffic. Nice shots, by the way. . .and when I saw where you were from it gave me pause for a sec. . .my son is "AirMedivac" stationed at Pope AFB, which is Fayetteville, NC.

WH, I'm with you on the conversion of MAIW packages. I tried several times to bite the bullet and use their stuff in FSX, but I spent more time bogged down in low FPS hell and trying to delete offending scenery objects, than I ever did flying. They do some nice work, but they are stuck in FS9 and have no intentions of ever going beyond that unfortunately.

Nice screens there SteveB, what base is that? Looks like some nice scenery to go along with the Heli and Migs. Thanks for the input guys!!:salute:

I guess I'll stick with FS 9 for the near future as I really like setting it up for the "Silver Wings" and "Cold War" periods of history. The MAIW packs are the cat's meow as well as Ian's latest Cold War efforts. I generally modify the MAIW AI traffic files to make them retro active to the late 50s through the 70s and into the 80. There are just scads of nice AI aircraft now for FS 9 that really fit into this project.

Great screen shots "JF". Until recently I've just dabbled with AI, parking and flight plans. This is a whole "new" (to me) facet of flight simming that is proving to be quite enjoyable. No good reason for me to leave FS9 anytime soon with all the as yet "undiscovered country!"
