Milviz F15 or JF Tornado

747jet

Members +
Hi,

I am looking for a good military jet for fsx. I cannot find much info about those two planes. Only thing I found is that the F15 sometimes has strange ctd's.

The Tornado is just some months old but there were also some issues with fps.

Which one would you recommend?

747, all the performance issues with the Tornado have now been solved. Both good models, but the functions on the Tornado are outstanding.

Indeed, both are very good. It is a question which (real-world) plane you want to simulate most. The F-15 is not TacPacked, as far as I know, but the Tornado will be.

Thanks for fast answering.
When I install the demo of the tornado and say "yes I like it". Do I have do deinstall the demo and download the normal version or can I just unlock the demo to the normal version like with the FSX GSX Demo?

I've never used the demo, but personally I think I'd un-install it and run the full installer that you'll get when you purchase it, it's no trouble to do so. Don't forget to keep your account details safe so that you can re download the installer should you need to, or if there's another update later on.

Although the F15 doesn't support TacPack, it does have it's own working weapons system and can shoot down AI, drop bombs etc. Not sure if the F15 works, or is even allowed to be used in P3d, if you're considering going that way in the future, and according the the web page FSX-SE isn't officially supported.
The Tornado is OK for FSX, SE, P3dv2 & v3.

JF Tornado does not support TacPack yet either. Just a heads up. It was said to be developed later.

The MilViz F-15 is beautiful, and the virtual cockpit is quite complete.
The custom weapon system is kind of a double-sided sword: on one hand, you don't need TacPack to get functional weapons (and TacPack is not available for P3Dv3 yet), but on the other hand, it is prone to crashes, and I believe P3D does not really like some of the DLLs for that plane (if I'm not confused with another one....).
I had installed the F-15 in my P3D v2 but I was getting some CTDs and bad performance.
Since then, I have changed my video card and I switched to P3Dv3, but I haven't tried to install the F-15 yet, so I can't tell if it works correctly in v3 or not.
However, as written above, the F-15 is not supported in P3D at all, contrary to the Tornado.

The Tornado is supported in P3D, and it's also beautifully modelled both inside and out. However, it was said to suffer from terrible performance problems, until that SP3 patch which is supposed to solve these problems. As Martyn wrote earlier, there is a very nice demo available to test the aircraft and see how it performs on your computer, so I believe this would be the very first thing to do. For the P3Dv3 users, the lack of TacPack features is not problematic yet, since TacPack itself is not available yet.

Could you share a bit of details regarding your feedback on that Tornado please ?
I'm lacking a bit of time to test it myself, even though I've been hesitating to buy it for quite a while...
What were you looking for, and what has dissapointed/not seduced you enough in that product ?

First when I installed the plane and loaded a flight, the fuselage of the Tornado was transparent, the VC too. I never saw this on my fsx steam. I had to restart my pc although there was no message after installation.

Then I wanted to take off and noticed that I cannot move the thrust lever with my joypad buttons I selected. It works on every plane except on the Tornado.

Last point when I was in the air and tested the afterburner, the exhaust flame was there although the AB was off. I had to move the levers far back, for letting it disappear.

Looked for a manual because perhaps it was my fault. Only found one on the JF web site but no answer in it

Thanks for your comments. I'm surprised you use a joypad for flying in FS. I know it's possible but I guess it's not so convenient...
However, I'm still unable to build my final opinion on that plane. I will probably end up installing the demo as well.

I know a pad is crap but I am too lazy to buy a stick. If I do want one, I would buy a good one which is expensive.
And because fsx is the only game I play with a stick, it is not worth it

Are you sure the reheat was off? The front 50% of the Tornado's throttle movement is the reheat range so max dry thrust is a long way back on the throttle quadrant.

Not sure if the demo installs the manuals, if it does they're probably in your start menu under Just Flight.

In this case, why don't you spare your money and just download any of Cattaneo's jets for free ?
They are all absolutely great and of payware level and fit your criteria of :

I am looking for a good military jet for fsx

since you don't have any special interest for some certain jet.

I have always liked the MILVIZ F15 but was never able to get the custom weapon system to work...
was there a newer version then "MILVIZ_F15E_Setup_1_1_SPU" that I have or is there newer version out that fixes the crashes:wavey:
