Milviz Skycrane Beta updates

Good evening everyone. Well at this present time the Skycranes have passed through a couple beta cycles and are now flying within FSX and fairly trouble free. These birds hold a special place with me as I am a Sikorsky helicopter mechanic, so it has been in my interest to see them flying. As of right now there is no release date, and we are still working hard behind the scenes working to fine tune the little bugs that pop up. Hopefully these screen shots help. By the way the driveshafts, oil cooler fan, and engines are all animated. Hard to tell with still screens, but that is one thing that amazed me the first time I fired them up cause I didn't even know that we were doing that. These are not all the versions. The Erickson Air crane also comes without the water gear in a hoisting config, and the S-64 comes with an Army container hanging underneath. As always they are works in progress, but feel free to comment, and enjoy!

Awesome!!

I remember seeing them at the local airshow. They'd come over with a public service announcement for people to remove their cars from handicap parking spots. Then, you'd see a Skycrane come across with a car slung underneath using the magnet. The Skycrane would get to airshow center and drop it. Scared the pants off people! :icon_lol:

That is pretty funny. We are going to be toying around with missions to make some of the gear functional. As far as in sim goes though the aircraft is as it is. Although I found out today if you remove the weight from the fuel/payload window that the cargo container disappears from the S-64. Havent tried it yet with the Erickson. A magent would be cool though if the sim could differentiate between metallic and non-metallic objects. Would be fun just picking stuff up and dropping it. :icon_lol:

Will the Fire stuff be operational? like the tube or scoop?

At the moment to my knowledge it is not (I do not do modeling/animation so I am not in the know in this department). That is why we are trying to develop missions for this package. As of this very second to my knowledge though I am going to be honest and say no. I will mess around with the beta though, and if I find out differently I will put it up here. I am sure in good time KC will let us know, or I will ask and I will get back to you. Like I said the first time I fired it up I was amazed the driveshafts and all were animated. I think it would be pretty useless outside of a mission format anyway. Just took it up in free flight and did not even see the switches and such to operate the firefighting gear. I will bring that up. Didn't even think to check that stuff as I was busy checking how it flew.

We are the same crew doing the 310. The Skycrane though is being coded through an outside partner though. We just did the model/textures and some of the animations on this bird.

This thing looks great ! Thanks for the screens .

I remember years ago the HVAC company I worked for used one of these helos to remove and install a air conditioner on a building . I will never forget that sight . The rotor wash was so strong it was blowing small rocks, sticks, paper and everything imaginable around .

Unless the price is out of my reach, this will be a must have .

At this moment price is not decided, although I would not foresee it being to far out of line with our previous releases. So I would say the best estimate would be to look at the UH-1 cost, and plan for that plus or minus some. I put in some tweaks for the flight dynamics the other day, and should be getting some more screens up over the next few days. At this point though the model is basically finished. It is mainly down to coding, and working out bugs now. Still a bit of work ahead, but the wait should be reasonable. I know the rotorwash is powerful. Been around the MH-53E's on the flight line in Norfolk, VA. About would blow ya over. Never seen a Skycrane though.

This one will be my 3rd helicopter purchase for FSX. Guaranteed.
...The videos of the RW skycrane are outright cool (as my son says)
Amazing beast of the rotary world

They had some pretty cool ideas in that video. I like the rescue pod. It is unfortunate with FSX there is no real practicality with stuff like that. Is good to see those guys continuing to innovate with the aircraft. Hopefully that will be able to help rescue people in the event of another 9/11 type situation.
