Mission accomplished..

It was not a war against Osama...

it's a war against terror and terrorism is endless.

Cheers for the battle won.

The reports were a bit unclear as to just where OBL's hideout was located relative to the Army Burn Hall College. One report I read said a few hundred yards. Another 1/2 mile. ABCNews has a page with a series of photos taken at the scene as well as an areal recon photo of the location. After some diligent searching on Google earth, I found the spot. It is actually 2.15 miles SW of the Burn Hall College location. The recon photo is oriented with North to the right so spin your Google earth display the same way and you will see the match up. The only issue is that the GE image is from 2009 and does not show OBL's compound in its pre-raid configuration.

Here is the link to the ABCNews photos

Here are the coordinates of OBL's compound:

34°10'10.90"N
73°14'33.77"E

Find the recon photo and GE capture attached.

Cheers!

Thanks for the kind thoughts Morton and KH and thanks for those coordinates MR.

I'm afraid that like the Hydra, with the loss of one head, the monster will grow two more.

AL Qaeda depends heavily from Bin Laden contacts to finance its operations. I think it'll need some time to substitute this.

Right you are Jagd. We only got one head, we still have to get Ayman El Zawairi and Mullah Omar. I suggest we change the name to Usama Been Got. Note: an arabic linguist, sometime back told me that his name is pronounced "uh" = Usama Bin Ladin - that's why the official government abbreviation is UBL. The press, over the years, insists in spelling it Osama.

Way to go special ops!!! :salute:

Yes. Well done to the US Special Forces. It may not mean the end of terrorism, but it means the end of one of the main leaders and financial conduits of these lunatics, which can only for the common good.

Way to go, Guys.

According to everything i've been following since the hunt began years ago, UBL ceased being what you may call a "main leader and financial conduit" a good while back, as he ran from one hole to another to dodge his hunters. The bulk of his assets were reportedly seized, his wealthy family cut him off and he essentially had to cut himself off from strategic planning due to the possibility of security breaches in his circle. He died as nothing more than a fugitive and a man truly without a country, living off the welfare of his scattered supporters by way a few trusted couriers. Even the Pakistanis denied his residence within their borders, although they evidently harbored him. And if you can't even use a simple phone or internet-connected computer for fear, you're not in a position to lead anything, even if you are highly regarded by your followers.

Yeah, he might have had a cult following right to the end, like Saddam Hussein, but like Hussein, he was ineffectual as a leader and funder while on the run. This al Qeada movement has no true leader. Its just a global network of splintered groups and individuals acting on their own initiatives with one common goal against anything counter to their radical ideology. Like UBL, some of their people just happen to be louder and more visible than others, so they become the latest "face" of the movement, but they have no tangible leadership to target as in a conventional war to bring hostilities to an end.

Well said, Bearcat - brings up the question of when to bring the boys home and transition into more of a black ops/law enforcement/sneaky-peeky scenario.

Not saying I have the answer, just throwing the question out. I still have some buddies in JSOC, but I always just let them tell me what they want to.

FYI, the latest news from govt. sources is telling a different story now that they have more insight into his private affairs: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20110507/ts_nm/us_obama_statement

Well, if the headline of the article is true then Al Quaida must be one sorry excuse for a threat. We have gangs in San Diego that have better fitted-out and impressive looking CnC HQs. :icon_lol:
