Mission completetion problems

Default training mission number 04

CFS3.1a stand alone special install to use Jerry Beckwidth's Mudpond aircraft.

This a simple mission. Use the default P-47D and Dive bomb the factory then strafe the airfield then land at the airbase. No wing men on this mission.

First problem I had was just staying alive for the flak. After multiple attempts to do the boom and zoom I finally was able to limp one time back to the base and land although it was a belly landing.

Each time I could not do sufficient damage to the facilities to complete the mission even if I had succeed.

So I figured its time to tilt the odds in my favor so I installed Mission Builder and edited the xml file to give me some wing men. I also like the idea of taking off in my plane so I add the destination airfield as the start.

Mission now is

  • take off
  • Turn
  • turn
  • bomb factory
  • rocket airfield
  • land back at airbase

Simple changes and that helped as the wing men seemed to draw the flak away from me or maybe it was divided amongst us I don't know. I read the documentation about how to use the wing men so I have it working OK. I am able to release them to do their part of the work. Still as I was always leading the charge I might make it to the airfield to strafe it before I got hit and I might not.

Today although I did not like this method I released 2 groups of wingman to attack the factory which they did great. Destroyed it to 0%. I over flew the factory right over it but the way point does not register. So I did the Shift W to select next way point. We run over the Airfield I drop my bombs, fire my rockets and its off to home. However it did not register that way point either so I had to do the Shift W again to select the next way point.

Victory or so I think.

We finally arrive at the airbase where I land with out a problem and get off the runway before I get hit by one of my wing men.

I sit at the end of the runway and watch everyone of them do an impression of a lawn dart right at the end of the runway. Just about in the same spot.

Now on approach to the airbase the notification came up 2 goals still remaining. But we blew the begezzers out of them well below the limits in the mission.

Still the mission does not end and I am forced to manually end it.

Question 1

  • Did the mission fail because the way points did not automatically register? If so how do I fix that.
Question 2

  • How do you keep the wing men from planting themselves on landing? Surely my service record will look much better if they survive. On a side note they had one heck of a weenie roast going on down there. :icon_lol:
Question 3

  • Prior to editing the mission and at least once after I would be attacked at the factory by BF-109s. When I added more wing men they seemed to stop attacking us. Why?
Other details

For this mission I used Mud Ponds F8F-2 Bearcat http://www.mudpond.org/aircraft3_index.html

I know it is historically inaccurate but I like it and its just for fun.

Mission is attached in the event anyone wants to look at it. Other than the aircraft it is all default objects.

Thanks for any help guys I am hoping to have just a little time to burn in CFS 3 and ETO for a while...

Maybe

I'll take a look at your broke mission as I get the time, I can't say until I open it what is up..
I'll let you know..

I think I can answer this first question:

"First problem I had was just staying alive for the flak. After multiple attempts to do the boom and zoom I finally was able to limp one time back to the base and land although it was a belly landing."

The flak in CFS3 is way too accurate.. There are some flak fixes out there that lower the flak, and makes it a lot more suriviable..
I can't remember where and or who made them but I do have one loaded into my CFS3 advanced set up and it helps..They have been around for sometime now..
Perhaps in the CFS3 other files, or Effects Files in the download section??

As for the aircraft nosing over, that has to do with the Model and aircraft config file..
I haven't had this on any Stock aircraft That I can remember..That has me a bit surprised..
Change the airbase where you fly from or land at, and see if this continues..
I hope this helps..

The flak fixes I have are named "CFS3 flak.zip and CFS3 beta_flak_fix.zip" but I cannot remember where I got them from. They do make CFS3 more survivable and I hope you can locate them

The first is a set of 5 xdp's for :- a_90mm, a_flaktower, g_88mm, g_flaktower and g_wirbelwind.

The second is a set of 8 xdp's for all the flak guns :- 20mm(2), 37mm(2), 40mm(2), 88mm and 90mm together with xdp's for all their associated "round"

This is the Readme for the beta file:-

Beta adjustable Flak fix for cfs3

For improved framerates and more survivability.

***********MAKE SURE TO BACKUP OR,***********
** YOU CAN USE THE DEFAULT FILES IN THIS ZIP FOR BACKUP **

It is really only Three changes, Two changes in the gun .xdp in the guns folder and another in the coresponding round.xdp in the weapons folder.
I made as little changes to the flak as possible because it's fun but mostly overpowering even in rookie flak settings.
You can make any change you want to as long as you delete the .bdp files
and optionally backed up.

From flak_gun xdps in the guns folder:
changed "rate" Generally bigger guns fire more slowly
for comparison 50cal was "12.5" and the german88 was ".25"

changed "timealive" how long the flak smoke lingers around
roughly seconds i think.

20mmflak1935_gun.xdp
20mmflak_gun.xdp
37mmflak_gun.xdp
40mmflak28_gun.xdp
40mmflak_gun.xdp
88mmflak_gun.xdp
90mmflak_gun.xdp

From flak_round xdps in the weapons folder:
changed "blastradius" sphere of damge around the center of the explosion???
20mmflak1935_round.xdp
20mmflak_round.xdp
37mmflak_round.xdp
37mmflak1935_round.xdp
40mmflak28_round.xdp
40mmflak_round.xdp
88mmflak_round.xdp
90mmflak_round.xdp

I know that it is difficult to make fixes because something might work on one cpu and not another but i have found an adjustment to the flack guns that has worked well for me and if some of you want to experiment with this flak fix it could work out well for all.

Installation:
