Mods for Dave Maltby's BAC 1-11

Bjoern

worst developer ever
1. The cockpit was a bit quiet, so: Switch sounds.
2. Makes use of FSX' APU as APU instead of a third engine. Before the fans get out their pitchforks: I was thorough.
3. Fire extinguishers use FSX' fire suppression system.
4. Slight mods to the engine start system.
5. Bleed air system modified and recoded.
6. Plane will now initalize with the cockpit lights off.
7. A few other modifications.

Known issues:
The clickspots of the switches in the middle of the overhead are flickering. Probably z-fighting with the underlying polygon. They work reliably on the 2D OH.
It's a portover, so make sure the rain fix is installed.

Enhancements:
1. Replacement soundpack by Benoit Plamondon:
http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=benoit+maltby+spey&CatID=root&Go=Search

2. If you happen to have Tom Ruth's 727 installed, here's some replacement smoke. DM's original one is a bit heavy on FPS. Uncomment the last lines if you need more smoke.

Short body 200/300/400 series:
Code:
[SMOKESYSTEM]
Smoke.0=-30.10, 3.05, -7.08, fx_727engsmoke
Smoke.1=-30.10, 3.05,  7.08, fx_727engsmoke
//Smoke.2=-30.10, 3.05, -7.08, fx_727engsmoke
//Smoke.3=-30.10, 3.05,  7.08, fx_727engsmoke

Long body 500 series:
Code:
[SMOKESYSTEM]
Smoke.0=-35.10, 3.05, -7.08, fx_727engsmoke
Smoke.1=-35.10, 3.05,  7.08, fx_727engsmoke
//Smoke.2=-35.10, 3.05, -7.08, fx_727engsmoke
//Smoke.3=-35.10, 3.05,  7.08, fx_727engsmoke

3. You should remove the entry for the third engine (formerly used as APU) aka "Engine.2" from the aircraft.cfg as all logic pertaining to it has been purged from the gauges and thus CTRL+E might have unfortunate ramifications in-flight.
Code:
Engine.2= -35.600, 0.000, 3.000

This should hold you over until AH releases their model.

- Edit:

Before someone asks: No love for BEA/BA pilots and their elitist -510ED. No love at all.

Will eagerly try this tonight. Have been flying the 200 (with a lovely paint BEA by Mr. DaveB to suit the 200) a fair bit of late - should be good.

Thanks again,

dl

Looking forward to trying this out, though you are playing with perfection, my favoured airliner....... :pop4:

Bjoern,

A big thank you for making and releasing these mods. I have waited for YEARS to be able to do a full startup on the DM 1-11 in FSX, and tonight I did it for the first time. Thank you for making it possible! :applause: :encouragement:

I've tried an updated gauge file for the 1-11 from CBFS before, but that didn't really improve matters on the APU. Also, the startup was a bit unreliable if not coupled with CTRL+E or CTRL+SHIFT+F4.
Good to hear that the new logic works better.

TBH.. I don't think this was anything to do with the pilots.. more so BEA. The idea being that it would be easier for crews to 'move up' to the Trident which already had the same avionics fitted. It did cause problems after the merger when all the 'small fry' were sucked in too as 510 trained pilots couldn't jump into smaller, Collins fit aircraft they now owned and likewise.. Collins fit trained pilots couldn't jump into a 510 without cross training. That's BEA/BA and British aviation for ya!:biggrin-new:

I know, but as DM jumped through all the hoops to get this variation done. There just has to be some poor souls flying this oddball. :biggrin-new:

hahahahaha..

It nearly didn't happen but in the end, we had enough to go for it. I have to admit my personal preference is for the Collins fit;)

Small update (same download link).

Made the air condition warning lights go out when there's no electrical power; added strobe lights, in case someone needs 'em*; cold&dark now works reliably.

Also, shame on anyone downloading/modding it and not noting that the smoke coordinates are way off!

2-/3-/400/475:
Code:
Smoke.0=-30.10, -7.08, 3.05, fx_smoke_f6
Smoke.1=-30.10,  7.08, 3.05, fx_smoke_f6

500:
Code:
Smoke.0=-35.10, -7.08, 3.05, fx_smoke_f6
Smoke.1=-35.10,  7.08, 3.05, fx_smoke_f6

(The referenced effect is from Dave Garwood's Hawker Hunter and seems to fit the 1-11 quite well.)

Next hint:

In the panel.cfg, replace
Code:
FUEL_FLOW_KGH_1,  1043,942,68,68
FUEL_FLOW_KGH_2,  1144,942,68,68
FUEL_LOAD_KG_C,  864,747,64,66
FUEL_LOAD_KG_L,  773,746,64,66
FUEL_LOAD_KG_R,  954,747,64,66
with
Code:
FUEL_FLOW_PPH_1,  1043,942,68,68
FUEL_FLOW_PPH_2,  1144,942,68,68
FUEL_LOAD_LB_C,  864,747,64,66
FUEL_LOAD_LB_L,  773,746,64,66
FUEL_LOAD_LB_R,  954,747,64,66
to have the fuel-related gauges in imperial units.

*The switch will be there, but there won't be an actual light unless you add them to the aircraft.cfg. The model has wingflex, so the strobe effect will be a bit off on the ground and in the air!

Modified eyepoints:

2/3/400 series:
Code:
[Views]
eyepoint=35.5,-1.6,5.7

500 series:
Code:
[Views]
eyepoint=43.5,-1.6,5.7

Based on that, a view for the FO (put this at the bottom of the aircraft.cfg):
Code:
[CameraDefinition.000]
Title=Copilot
Guid ={D9CCAFDB-43EC-4c80-984C-D90E83F48185}
Origin = Virtual Cockpit
MomentumEffect = YES
SnapPbhAdjust = Swivel
SnapPbhReturn = False
PanPbhAdjust = Swivel
PanPbhReturn = False
Track = None
ShowAxis = YES
AllowZoom = TRUE
InitialZoom = 0.6
SmoothZoomTime = 2.0
ZoomPanScalar = 1.0
ShowWeather = Yes
XyzAdjust = TRUE
ShowLensFlare=True
Category = Cockpit
PitchPanRate=30
HeadingPanRate=75
PanAcceleratorTime=0
InitialXyz=1.0, 0.0, -0.00
InitialPbh=0, 0, 0

Ugly bug: The gauge polys lose transparency if you switch on a light. I think this is standard portover behaviour.

Bjoern..

The smoke coordinates on DM's model are for FS9 where they work perfectly well. M$ decided to change coordinates with FSX so without changing them to suit.. you'll get smoke in the wrong place. This is the same for just about any FS9 jet ported into FSX. FS9 coordinates.. yxz.. FSX coordinates.. xzy:)

Someone have a couple of VC shots of the new panel + gauges?

When I added these mods the other day, I lost my panel bmps, and got all manner of strange gauges. Knowing the quality of Bjoern's work, I'm assuming its all me and having buggered something along they way.

Thanks,

dl

New revision (same link).

You get better tooltips on the ASI and fuel related gauges. The former now has mach and longitudinal acceleration (useful for holding cruise speed) and the latter will indicate kilograms, but the tooltip will have both kg and lbs.
Also, there's an airspeed hold/autothrottle switch below the avionics master switch. It will only hold the currently indicated speed at the moment of throwing the switch. Consider it a stand-in for a FO watching speed and throttle. My throttle isn't just precise enough to hold any speed without constant adjustment.

I know. I got the replacement coordinates from a thread at CBFS. Either I copy-pasted the wrong one or the person posting them got them slightly wrong in the first place.

The panel looks just like it used to, 2D and VC.

I built this on DM's original panel download from his website, so a reinstall might be a better base.

The plane's panel.cfgs reference "DMFS Shared Files\BAC 1-11 Panel VC" and all bitmaps, gauges and panel sounds are right in that folder.
Just make sure to rename the original .cab and panel.cfg files in there. FSX will prefer the gauges from the folder, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
