Hi, i am having probs starting up the game as i get the monitor going to sleep message. it hapens with this sim, cfs 3 and il2. i tried a strategy game, ie panzer corp and it did not happen. Also, I changed power settings to never turn off and it still does it. I use windows Vista core 2 duo with an HP w2207 monitor. it just started happenign a week ago but i did not do anything. It also went to sleep when viewing a image or pic and 1 email. I am at a loss. Ut runs fine in safe mode with newtworking but you cant really play games. Any one have a solution. thx.

again, i am using safe mode and can view images and emails fine without monitor going to sleep. just undr regular windows it does this.

Can you do a "System Restore" back to a date a week or so ago when it was working normally?

Hi D,
By the sounds of it, I think it will be a heat related issue with the graphics card or onboard graphics chip. Now we've reached summer, temperatures are a little higher so pc components that were on the overheating edge, are tipped over.

In Safe Mode, you are not using any of the advanced graphics rendering of your card/chip, that is why there is no problems. Now that could point to a driver problem, in that you are not using certain parts of the drivers and so no probs, or more likely in Safe Mode you are not stressing your card/chip at all, and so it does not over-heat and shut down to save itself from damage.

To test both of these probs out, if you are computer knowledgeable and only IF, uninstall your graphics drivers and graphics control engine. If you have a removable graphics card, power down your pc, switch off the power, but leave plugged in (to earth yourself from damaging pc components with your static). Remove the card and give the fan and exhaust a good clean, make sure the cooling fan spins freely. Then re-install the card, fire up your pc, re-install your card drivers and control engine, go and test it out.

If you have a graphics chip, that's not so easy as you cannot do a lot about it, but make sure it is clean and there's a free flow of cooling air. As before, uninstall the graphics drivers/engine, and re-install, go test out. If it is a failing graphics chip, and you can put a separate graphics card in, then that's the way to go.

As I said only do this if you know what you are doing, and it is at your own risk, however small that is!

Hope this helps, and let us know....

Cheers

Hi, i will give you an update. and a pic. i just turned on pc nd got vertical lines and discoloration when starting yp. i tried going to f8 and doing last good config option and it went away but now my resolution is 640 x 800 and cant change the slider to 1600X 1000 or anything. i hope from the pic you can find out. Also, i ran seagate diagnostic for the ahrd drive and did a shortpass test and it failed on my internal hardrive but not the external western digital one. i ran another disk drive utility which is for all pcs winows and it gave a caution message. i have been rolling drivers nvidia 8300 gs back and forth on nvidia site to see if driver issue but cant tell yet. This pic is what is alrming.

The vertical lines on the HP logo screen on starting up are vertical. By the hp screen it is the loading screen and then when it hits desktop or user acct screen(vista 32 bit) it gives vertical lines there. And again the desktop with the mouse cursor freezes up. So basically, its the freeze up and the lines that are the issue where i have to go to safe mode to surf and emails etc.

D,
As I said it is without doubt your graphics card failing. Did you try as I suggested above? If not, you may be lucky, if you or get someone to carry out the above. The card may now be permenantly damaged, that is why you are getting these lines.

It is not a failing HDD or driver problems, they would not cause this visual problem.

If you can borrow another graphics card that will prove it is the card itself is the problem.

Your card has done well, the 8300GS is from about 2007, and if your HDD is failing aswell, again if it's of that age then 6-7 years is pretty good!

Please don't waste any more time on tests etc.......:wiggle:
