• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

More from Black Square!

I like their stuff, but the only one of those that I would be interested in would be the turbine. I looked at the airspeed indicator in the screenshots, and it doesn't look to be much faster than the piston. I already have the Turbine Duke, so this release wouldn't really scratch any new itches. The stock TBM 930 does everything I could ever expect from a single t-prop, except have a visible copilot...

Actual FAA regs on a turbine conversion of a piston airframe means the plane is essentially slower as a TP. FAA requires that the Top of the green arc/start of the yellow becomes the redline. This is to ensure you can't overstress the airframe (Theoretically) unless the conversion company does extensive (and expensive) airframe testing. Mostly for flutter. Most don't do this. The only thing a TP conversion does is jack up the climb rate (and fuel burn) In a pressurized plane (IE Duke) you can get high and efficient. But even on O2 by mask, a Bonanza just doesn't seem to get high enough to be worth it. Now a TBM was designed as a TP from the get go so will eat a turbine Bonanza for breakfast. Piper realized this with the Meridian over a Mirage. Cram a PT-6 in the nose and to carry enough gas to fill the tanks, and if you have a third passenger older than age 8 all you can carry for bags is toothbrushes.... And the IAS red line in the Meridian is still lower than the Mirage.
