Virtavia NEWS Aug 11 :

The old AlphaSim B-52 Stratofortress, F-117A Nighthawk and Dassault Mirage IV packages for FS2004 are now available as freeware. A VC and full 2D panel suite is included for each, the B-52 includes the Co-Pilot panel addon and a paint kit, and the F-117A includes custom sounds. Just head over to the Freeware pages : http://www.virtavia.com/Freeware/index.php

note: I thought the Mirage IV was already available as freeware on the old site?

The Mirage IV was uploaded at Flightsim.com in 2008; of course there's also the freeware version by Roland Laborie, Jean-Pierre Bourbeois, Jean Pierre Langer;look for mir4vol1.zip and mir4vol2.zip at Flightsim.com.

The F-117 is one of my favourite old Alphasim aircraft and I fly it quite often. Cool aircraft!

Thanks for the heads up, and thanks to Virtavia for releasing more Alphasim classics! I have been wanting to have a go with the Alpha "Buff" for a while now.

Buff and Nighthawk

Thanks for that heads up!

I enjoy the Virtavia B-47 and B-36 bombers so now I'll have a go at the Buff. Back in the day, I watched a few "Arclight" missions tear up the A Shau Valley so I guess my first flights will be from U Tapao in Thailand up to the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Some flights over the Pacific out of Anderson Air Base on Guam might be in order too.

Jagdflieger - there is a series of 5 entries on YouTube you may be interested in, they have to do with the Christmas 1972 bombing of North VietNam. These are recordings of cockpit voice conversations aboard a B-52 approaching Hanoi to bomb at night during Linebacker II as well as other radio transmissions from other aircraft. If you go to YouTube and type in "In a B-52 bomber over Hanoi, 1 of 5" you can pick up on the series. Transcripts are provided synchronized to the recording. It is sobering indeed to listen to these broadcasts and picture in your mind's eye what's going on aboard those bombers as the flak is going off and the SAMs are coming up, especially when you hear the multiple rescue beepers going off following a bailout. Since you mentioned ArcLight, I thought you might be interested in this as well. SSI01

Thanks, and thanks!

Hard to believe this extraordinary device could be made to fly, eh?

Now, I do like the weapons animation, operable from the MFD.
But surely, surely, there is a way to make the bomb drop??

Thanks for the HU. I will be downloading as soon as I can get to my FS computer. I've been hoping that the B-52 would become available as freeware as my payware budget has never been quite up to that purchase.

Yessss!!! Have been waiting for the Buff for a long time. Looks like I picked a good time to get my simulator PC back up and running.:salute:

Did the AI models that were included in the retail package make it to the freeware pack? Avsim (and Graham King if memory serves) had a bunch of repaints for it.

Thank you Virtavia et al.

Even more amazing is the fact they've already been retired...

The bombs cannot be dropped unfortunately!

Thank you Morton, specially the new 2d panels are great, I am gonna use these goodies to upgrade my FS9 Meteor!

cheers, Henk.

Edit: Now I have installed the new liveries I see what a major improvement they are compared to the stock paints (which are deleted now:wiggle:). Amazing how good this ancient model looks in FS9 now!

I think Phil is playing catchup in rebuilding the websites.
The Mirage was made freeware a couple years ago.
