Ms is offering Office 2010 in test beta for public

yeah Office 2k works for me too but on the other hand i have received ".docx" documents from work that i couldn't open.

Yep,my friend tried to open an excel file the other day and couldn't with office 2003.You are going to start running into that if you get files from others with a newer program.

I have Office 2003 and I think it was slightly overpriced and it is fine.

I have Mac OSX iWork and its roughly $75.00 and it does perhaps three times or more then Office does. I will stick with iWork. Far better deal, but more so, far more tools... Quality comparisson is hands down far better then MS's Office.

Question. Why keep changing the platform when you could be just making improvements? Now, perhaps that is what MS has done this time, but like with FSX, they changed out the XML, MDL's, etc, which made it a totally new platform. Some say it needed that. Fine. But it was so more complicated to work with from a Dev point of view. If they keep doing this with all platforms, like changing languages, etc, then I think, personally, it stunts its growth and its quality doesnt get to levels it could have obtained.

A for-instance. What could WinXP have been like if they just focused on making a next version up platform of that!? What would FS9 be like if they just make a more advanced version of 'that'?

My humble 400 cents. (I said toooo much.. arrgh).

Another thing which I am seeing in the industry... Ultra pricing.

Ultra pricing is asking thousands for a common, high power program that everyone loves.

A for-instance. Photoshop. Everyone uses it. Now, since AutoDesk has purchased it, it is now $3,000.00 for the top of the line Studio version of this package. From $50.00 to $3K in what 4 years? Just because its an awesome program? lol..

FS started down that route. The pro version was $800.00.

With Apple, their Office pack is $75.00.

I think the biggest competitor with Windows Office, presently, is the freeware Open Office GL. Why you ask? Because its not $250.00 plus dollars. The economy is doing bad. People are not made of gold. They would prefer to purchase a supported software platform, but the prices are sky rocketing, and the masses (which are huge numbers, by the way) are going alternate routes.

I think if Windows Office price themselves (this time) quite high, they will not do well in the market place...

I hope I am not sounding critical or anything. Just saying, I hope they keep their new platform for Office 'affordable' for 'everyone' and keep it simple and useable for both users and devs. Thats all...

I use Office 07 but only use Word and Power Point. I also use the Email program and my Ipaq is also tied into office. I guess I need to read up on the new release to see if anything has been added for my use.The only thing I will be updating is Windows7 when it has a final release...Mike

I'll probably skip this one. I have Office 2007 and it is fine for what I do (very little!) with it.

I'll probably skip Windows 7 too. For several years I tried just about everything that came out. For example, I have Vista Ultimate 64 on one computer but I use the computer with XP Pro the most.
