MT Rushmore, Devils tower, Yellowstone Road trip

Been a bit since I have posted at the SOH but I have been busy with summer fun!!! Went to a 100 centennial reunion (our family coming over to America from Germany) back in Dickenson ND. While we were enjoying visiting our first, second, third and fourth cousins we enjoyed a lazy road trip back to the west coast. I think my favorite part of the trip were the thunderstorms that were everywhere. We managed to make it through all of them alive and without damage to the car. I thought for sure at times the car would be dimpled to death with hail stones but all turned out well. Here are som pics of our journey. I also recommend for you close encounter fans to stay at the KOA campground (located at the base of Devils tower). Every night they show close encounters on a big screen outside in the evening. I posted a pic of us watching the film. 20 min. after the movie started a Thunderstorm came over Devils tower and ran us back to our cabin. It stormed for a couple hours but it was so cool watching the storm arrive over the tower...Felit like I was in the movie and the mothership was going to show itself to us. Any ways, good times.

View attachment 13107and finallyView attachment 13106 this is the one where we are sitting enjoying the movie and the T-storm to the left is coming to get us...whoooooooo, boy did we run fast to our cabin. All the poor tenters had to get into there cars and wait it out as they watched there tents being attacked by the storm.

Seeing that one picture of the angle on the Lower Falls there, I'm guessing you did the tortuous staircase known as "Uncle Tom's Trail"? :icon_lol:

Usually much dryer this time of year. Amazing to see that area so green yet.

the pic of your head on mt rushmore is awesome,

Looks like you had a fun vacation. Now that you've seen Devil's Tower, you won't have to worry about embarrassing your family by sculpting your mashed potatoes when you dine out. :d Nice to see free-roaming buffalo.

And boy does Uncle Tom's Trail make your heart beat out of your chest on the way back up. I thought I was going to call 911 for my brother. After a little rest at the top of the staircase he said " I need to start working out!!!!".
