Multiplayer error message-please help

I'm a novice at multiplayer and I am seeking help to solve a problem with CFS3 and its progeny - OFF, PTO, etc.

I have two home computers on the same network. I want to be able to have a player on computer one dogfight with a player on computer two. Each computer has its own IP. The operating system is Vista.

I have unblocked the various CFS3 firewalls on both computers. I have tried to open the ports by following a Microsoft support link recommended to me. Nevertheless, when I set up a host game on computer 1 then try to connect to it with computer 2 , I get a connection failed error.

Can anyone recommend a solution.

I'm afraid that pretty much everybody is a novice at multiplayer, the Microsoft CFS3 server has been history, for quite a while already. Why get into it, if you can't use it ? Very few are in your position of having an isolated network. :ernae:

PS. . Micky$oft pulled the plug on the CFS3 server, over a year back, as a cost cutting move

I'm certainly no expert, but I understand that in this case vista might be the culprit.

vista computers are unable to join ip to ip cfs3 games.

There were some reports that a vista player did in fact succeed in joining an OFF game, for some reason OFF allowed access where CFS3 did not. I think the game was hosted on XP though.

Never mind, even Adolf had issues with vista ....

I have succeeded in hosting OFF on my XP machine and a friend running Vista joining. We managed to play for a while but we had problems with losing the connection for no apparent reason. Then we could not reconnect unless we both rebooted. We tried the vice versa, Vista hosting and XP to connect but with no success.

With plain CFS3 or other mods like MAW we could not connect at all. Only OFF seemed to work, even with problems.
