Multiplayer events

Mods can you please sticky this thread so people can see what FSX multiplayer events are going on without looking through old threads and multiple pages. :wiggle:

Thanks

Please post in this thread if you are creating a room in Gamespy for multiplayer flight and want SOH members to join. Also if someone could make a few of the first posts in this thread a troubleshooting guide to help people get on Gamespy ( default lobby disconnect issue/voice transmit setup in FSX ) it would be nice. :mixedsmi:

Now everybody, go out and socialize. :ernae:

"When I try to login to GameSpy, I get this error message: "You have been disconnected from GameSpy. You may have logged in on another computer".
- This is a default message that doesn't mean what it says most of the time. For 99% of the time, this happens because the lobby is full. Since FSX will drop you in the Free Flight lobby by default, you might have trouble logging in at busy times of the day. But there is a trick: When you're logged in, select another lobby than the Free Flight lobby and then disconnect. Next time you login, FSX will drop you in that lobby and not in the Free Flight lobby. Since there aren't that many players in the other lobbies, it is unlikely that GameSpy will disconnect you. Make sure you logout in a non-Free Flight lobby. Remember that this trick is only valid if you don't care about the Free Flight lobby, cause when you select the Free Flight lobby after you logged in via another lobby, you will be disconnected anyway if the Free Flight lobby is full."

Also, if you put this line in your FSX.CFG file DefaultLobby="Adventures" replaceing the original "DefaultLobby=FreeFlight" line you will be able to log in a whole lot easier.

Never shut down FSX having last used the FreeFlight lobby, it will write it back into the .cfg file as the default for next time you try to log into gamespy!!!!

How should one shut down then to keep their config setting? Should one exit Gamespy, then turn off FSX, or turn off FSX before leaving Gamespy?

Just stay out of the freeflight lobby, or if you are in the freeflight lobby go to another lobby before you quit playing.

FreeFlight is the ghetto of gamespy.

I'm using a USB headset with boom mike. When I plug in the headset, it kills the sound output from soundcard. Any around this?

EDIT: Never mind, found the settings in FSX:jump:

i've a;ways thought that you need two soundcards in order to seperate the ATC sounds from the rest of the fsx sound. is that the case or am i missing something?

kind regards,

Meso

I set my sound settings up so my FSX sounds are my 5.1 sound speakers and my Voice sounds are my logitec USB headset. This way I crank up my surround speakers/bass so it sounds like I'm in an airplane and them put on my headset to hear only voices over it, the same as it would be in an airplane. Also this is the only way I get loud clear speech with my tone deafness and ringing in my ears.

i tried it once in fsx with just normal headphones with a normal audio plug and all sounds were coming thrue the headphones despite the seperation in the fsx options. maybe it only works with USB?

kind regards,

Meso

yes, you have to select different devices and you probably only had 1 sound card.

The USB headsets act as a different device than your sound card. I highly recomment the logitech USB headset with the boom mic. It is very easy to configure in Vista and works great in FSX.
