My Favorite Auburn Fire units

these are two of the Auburn Volunteer fire dept rigs..when this photo was taken, early 80s,,we were still in the process of restoring the buick,,not there is no lettering on the hood.and the Crown was brand new.
so..Crown TeleSquirt ,that we called out "truck"..but ISO said later it was a "water tower",which it was,had a 55 foot stick.to be honest, right now i dont remember the GPM,but im thinking it was 1200,and it was supplied with 2 4" supply lines at all times while working a structure.the station capt at this point, wont say his name, was a jerk, and he would respond it to grass fires, car crashes, everything,we had a type 3 parked right next to it for grass fires.now ofcourse, true "trucks" have the hurst tools..(jaws of life) and down to basic medical equipment so they do in fact roll on medical aids and accidents these days...

the Buick in a 1914 hose wagon, the department had two '14s and a '16...the '14s were the first motor vehicle "trucks" of any kind in all of auburn in 1914,and were quickly snapped up by the vol fire company,,then known as the auburn hook and ladder company, which is the name on this truck now.back in 1850,there were two seperate departments...the rattlers ..in oldtown..and the hook and ladder company uptown..if you ever take the time to look at auburn on google earth, auburn is physically split in two by a small ridge like thing, which forms a "bowl" around the oldtown gold discovery sites..and then the original transcontinental railroad curved its way around the top of this bowl ,and they put a railroad station on top of a hill near the canyon..creating two towns..which they combined..locals..or natives like myself, still refer to "uptown and downtown and then oldtown"..which really screws up the newbies because uptown is litterally on top of the hill where the train station is,and the ironworks, auburn iron works..been in business like 150+ years?..downtown is where the schools are,,placer high school, linclon way school (now city hall) and the fairgrounds..and then down in the bottom of the bowl...oldtown..the tourist trap with all the gold rush shops and bars...hic...
