Just when I thought I couldn't break the 3-kill barrier! What finally did it for me? I waited to pull the trigger until I was within 100m.

Hot diggity! :jump:

Never was able to claim more than two, many times I count myself Lucky that My Scalp isn't Hanging on another's Lodge Pole

If you feel you have mastered air gunnery, by waiting to put your bullits on target prior to fireing

You might be interested in a little theory of mine.

Player Bullit Spread
Default when you install is NORMAL

All aircraft engines operate smoothly, However when the machine gun fires, the mostly wood framed aircraft, must've vibrated badly due to recoil.
But single gun models, were only responsable for their own accuracy. Those I would put on TIGHT

While twin guns meant twice as much vibration, worse yet just as gun #1 was firing, gun #2 in full recoil, and visa-versa
Those I would put on WIDE

The exemption to the rule, is the SE5. Twin Guns . . but one in fusilage, the other on the upper wing.
She belongs on TIGHT
Also might explain why she was soo favored by pilots

Also I'd put the DVII on TIGHT because of the steel tube frame :kilroy:

Well done, lets hope they are confirmed though !

LOL! Not a one of them! A few missions later I get a "2 kills are confirmed, but 5 are not due to lack of visual confirmation" or something like that. I was kinda bummed as my flight was fairly nearby but alas...so it goes. :banghead:

Hi Gimpy,

Nice theory about the vibration, but I cant agree.

A wire braced, gusseted wooden structure is more than capable of sustaining the same forces as a box or tube steel frame when talking about airframes.
Infact under certain stres/strain conditions the wire braced wooden frame is stronger.

the main advantage of steel over wood is construction time and maintanence time being reduced, and saving on weight.

The other thing is the game engine doesnt model those sorts of criteria in the weapon accuracy calculations.

for the game if you can place shots well, then use tight, if you tend to spray and pray then use normal or wide

regards Rob.

Good one

Yes, nice shooting Flatspin. Well done. Dont worry, we all have claims rejected. Keep up the good work, I think we are going to need all the experience we can get for when the new AI enemy arrive in phase 3.

Cheers,
Speedski

Yes in P3 if you get 80 confirmed kills, i would call you "real" red baron... in todays virtual ww1. That is quite fun to see then who will be top of the list of kills. It Could be also that we cant ever beat real ww1 aces amount of kills.
:d

Cheers

Good job olde chap!

What aircraft were you flying? A 6 victory mission is my best, with 3 confirmed, in a DR1. Best in a single gun is in a Sop Tripe, 5 victories, 3 confirmed.

I was in an early Se5a...and I died a few missions later :(

My best campaign was 79 claims, 43 confirms

Wow...
that's pretty good.IMHO.:kilroy:

I have managed 4
a mix of N17's and SPADS I think in a DIII
confirmed all four
he made it to 10 or 11 confirmed before being jumped out of the sun at 16.69 hours and going down without getting a shot off

My best single mission was 6, in an EIII. Two N16s, 2 DH2s, and 2 SPAD VIIs, all confirmed. My best campaign was 79 claims, 43 confirms. It was ended by Archie. http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=230

CJ

Wow CJ, 6 kills is the best I've heard of so far, in an E.III no less? Youre a better man than I. I wouldve quit while I was ahead seeing those Spads coming. My best was last night actually...5 Nieuports downed in an Alb. D.II, still waiting for confirmation though.

nice thread

I'd abandoned the EIII for all the obvious reasons but wanted to see if I could strap on a few Spads like CJ....knocked off a few but nowhere close to five and CJ's right........ the bottom line is have patience till you're almost colliding then shoot........and scram....P3 soon!!!!
