After a long delay based on not having a PC/Laptop that could run FS202 on April 14th 2023 I bought the Premium 40th Anniversary Edition. It took me 6 days to download the software and all of the free add-ons. Yes I got a lot of stuff I might never see but I have it in the event I make it to those locations.
After waiting patiently for 6 days I finally got to take my first flight. For years I have been flying out of Key West Florida. I have 100s of hours testing flight models in this area so my first flight was to be a short hop out of Key West heading North along Route 1. I know this route by air in FS9, FSX, and now MSFS 2020. I also have traveled it in real life by car many a time. I have a really good story about one drive I will relay in another post. This one is about my Journey to Alert Canada and beyond.
My first flight started out in the early morning (5:30am) sitting in the Savage Cub waiting for the sun to rise. It was here I discovered the torch or flashlight if you are from the US.
At some point I thought I saw something out the window. As the light grew I found I had an attendant waiting for me to decide it was time to go.
Around 7:30 am I was finally ready to take off. This was my first flight and I didn't know what to expect. My controls were all set and functioning I had spent the day before working out how to setup my controllers. The weather was set to real world full realism. Take off and on the way to 7FA1 Sugar Loaf Shores.
I took off safely and landed and that is about all we can say. I did not get credit for the take off or the landing. As I remember it was rather sketchy.
As I continued North with no clear idea of where the next airport would be I eventually transitioned to the Cessna 152.
After a few hops in the C152 I deviated from the plan and took the time to fly a few of the Flight Training lessons. I completed 15 of them getting A's in 13 of them and B's in 2 others. After a number of months now Flight Simulator knows I completed 15 lessons but all of my grades went missing. I don't feel the need to do them over. One more deviation from the plan and its back on the way to Alert. I decided to fly a Bush Trip Breckenridge to Mariposa Yosemite. That concluded I went back to the last airport I landed at before all of the distractions and headed North again. I eventually landed at an airport in my home County 38D Salem. Here I switched to the Cessna 172 with Floats. Why Floats you may ask?
I have been looking ahead and where I am going there are not a lot of airports. At least not as many as there are in FSX/FS9. I now am using Plan-G to find my way to Alert and beyond.
