No right/wrong answers here folks, but these represent my most fond memories and in no particular order. :mixed-smiley-010:

COMBAT
-Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2
-Microprose European Air War

CIVILIAN (This was a tough one to decide)
-Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002/Bill & Lynn Lyons Golden Wings 2
-Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004

Microprose European Air War is without doubt the combat flight simulator which I enjoyed most.

My favourite air simulator is fs2004. I made the step to FSX years ago, but more or less have returned to FS9 as it is less complex.

The sims I've had the most fun with are undoubtedly FS2004 and CFS2.

FSX, CFS1 and CFS3 quite frankly were big sources of frustration. P3D, as soon as v4.x was released brought back some of the enjoyment and nowadays I'm discovering MSFS.

But in terms of pure enjoyment and hours spent with them, nothing comes close to FS2004 and CFS2.

The only combat sim on my rig nowadays is CloD.

Yah.....It seems like the complexity took away the 'relaxing realism' balance that FS2004.

Jane's USNF ---- Marked the start of our 257th Wild Bunch online squadron.
Jane's Israeli Air Force - My first online combat flying.
Jane's F-15 ---- Second favorite air combat sim. The first mission into Iraq during Desert Storm is still the single scariest flightsim mission I've ever flown.
Falcon4.0 Allied Force ----- IMHO still the greatest modern air combat sim ever made. Dynamic campaign running in real time, intelligent wingmen, study level cockpit, excellent online flying. Spent most of a year on the beta team for the final version of Falcon 4.0.
FSX in 2008 ---- The start of a great 14 years on the A2A core beta test group.

My favourite sims ranged from Flight Simulator 98 through to FS2002. Those sims to me were more simple and relaxing to fly. Since then each version has become more and more study level. This may sound strange coming from someone who was a private pilot in real life. While I say this I find I am growing into MSFS only a lot slower than previous versions. Might have something to do with age.

I still have all versions packed away and maybe one day I will find them and see how they run these days.
 
Nine for enjoyment,but if I want to test my reactions and gunnery,it's the original IL-2,still for me,the most
visceral and pure.

It's Modus Operandi is simple,shoot them down before they shoot you down.
 
Always FS2004, & I've tried FSX & FS2020.
I've had unique FS versions of Golden Wings, Vintage, Ford Tri-Motor Project, Alaska, Space & Heritage. AS well as a dedicated version of our Virtual Club's scenery.
Each iteration had it's own splash screen & identity. Having so many installs made things a lot easier for me, as the installs were not so big & I had no scenery conflicts at all.

Then (long story short) my laptop, along with six portable hard drives with my sim library on them got stolen five months ago.
So I had to start completely fresh again. I lost a lot of aircraft & scenery that I had collected over the years that are no longer available, as their host sites have dissappeared.

I've ended up with an Asus Ryzen 7 laptop, Windows 11, 16GB ram & 512GB SSD. I'm using a 2TB portable hard drive with my sim on it, and everything works perfectly for me.:jump::jump::jump:
 
CFS1 in 1999. Loved it, and then discovered downloads. Figured out how to work a zip file, how to install files. Addicted.

FS98 & FS2000.......no spark.

CFS2 was a revolution....oceans like National Geographic.....scratch one Flattop.....epic.

FS9.....superbly expandable, and then FSX, (!!!!) The final souped up variant with cloud shadows and everything......just brilliant.

So busy with that iteration, I couldn't have bothered with the P3D stuff.

Along with FSX, notable others were the IL-2 series (1946) and the Rise of Flight....beautiful.....deeply interesting.

Flight-simming finally stopped for now. Last gaming computer began to die just as duties at work began to expand dramatically.

Still read up during marginal free time. Occasionally download something & squirrel it away. Just in case.....

The new MSFS looks visually astonishing, but I'll bet if I can find the time in the future, it won't knock me over like the first time on CFS1.

My first was Jane's USNF but i had the most fun in CFS2.
I remember this guy that made a new plane almost every weekend.
(I totally forgot his name but i think he made the first p51 and me109 for CFS2)
Epic times !!!
 
CFS2, FS2004 for me still. IL2 comes in a close 3rd. Still enjoy the first two as if I have never played them before. Graham.
