My New Zealand Vacation

FSX Style of course, but I have never flown in New Zealand and just decided to have a look see at what it has to offer. I don't have any addons or enhancements for the area, so this is pretty much default and it ain't half bad really. I decided to use airplanes that had the power to allow me to clear the mountain ranges and still slow enough to enjoy the scenery. The Buecker 131, the Tailwind the LIC Scout and the Long-EZ have done a pretty nice job of getting me around so far and I may stick with the EZ, only because it affords me a much better view.

Currently I'm parked at Paraparaumu Airport. I took a heli over to Kapiti Island to do a bit of exploring. . . .very nice.

Great screenshots Ed!

Let me know how many days it takes to cross the continent. I did one adventure from North Africa, down to the tip of Southern Africa. Took me days at 2 hour hops and thats doing 4X on the long flights. Mostly flat terrain that just goes on and on and on... What I would do is run a flight each night (in my office) that would start at say 8AM, and fly as far as I could before the sun went down. One flight, I had to fly into the night and I had no Nav equipment for locating the airfield, so I was looking for the runway lights the entire time. I was also doing the flight in an old antique British airliner, some bizzare, big old bird. Great flights...

I love that Rutan model. They did an awesome job on that. Reminds me, I need to take that up again soon..

ARE there any full feature add-ons for NZ? After watching "The Lord of the Rings" I have always wanted to visit the place.

Paraparaumu Airport , hmm you may want to look at this small file , a stand alone scenery at AVSIM

There is also some scenery and photo based work done by Tim Barnes which I would recommend for NZ.

Default FS9 New Zealand is pretty awful, but fortunately there's a ton of freeware at avsm. Look for NZ40 metre mesh (i think its 40m, I have payware 20M) and anything by Robin Corn - there's a bunch of freeware sceneries that compliment his excellent payware. There's also a stunning rendering of Queenstown airport. To make the place look less desertlike and more like NZ try here

As for the weather...dont like it? Wait 20 minutes...

Great pics and welcome to NZ ..stop by Tauranga and I will give you a virtual :ernae:

The weathers a bit crap at the moment and we are having a wetter and colder spring than normal...hopefully it wil improve soon so you can enjoy the view.

Tim Barnes and Christian Stock are also working a full NZ enhancement similar to what RBE did in NZ for FS9

http://flightsimtopo.freeblog.co.nz/

There are also rumours that ORBX will do their magic to NZ.

Beautiful set of shots :applause:, and crossing my fingers that Orbx might take up the NZ challenge!

I have to agree. Just spent the last few hours going around NZ in FSX, installed the landclass as posted above, made a big difference and I did a virtual tour and street tour in google to get a feel and I must say I am totally envious of those that live there. Beautiful scenery from what I saw in real life and I can totally see how amazing it would be in FS if given the right treatment.

I tried to download the stuff from AVSIM but the files aren't there.

Bought the Godzone FSX package. However, I am in a hotel and can't download and fly it till tomorrow night.

You'll love the godzone scenery. I have a lot of it in FS9 and it's great. The FSX offerings are fewer but higher res. Again, If avsims up there's some FSX freeware from Robin Corn.

R.

I installed the Landclass for NZ and what a transformation that made. Much of the desert areas are gone and replaced with green landscapes, small towns and cities, more realistic coastlines and rivers, much nicer to fly now. I also downloaded and installed the mesh suggested on that site and although it seems to be made for 2004, I'm going to give it a shot. NZ. . . great place to get away!!!
