Read online last night that the 179th Air Lift Wing, based at KMFD, Mansfield, Ohio, will be losing their C-130Hs this year under some sort of equipment redistribution plan or some such. The C-130s will be transferred to the USAF and the 179th will receive C-21s...which is the military version of some business jet...Lear 35A or something like that. It won't be until 2013 until the 179th receives new cargo planes....the C-27J Spartan. Three years of not seeing large cargo planes flying over my house....not seeing the C-130s flying low and slow in 2, 3 and 4 ship formations over my house. Not hearing those large turbo prop engines howling over head. Having to hear the annoying whine of business jet engines....man I hate the sound of Lear jets.

Darn,I live about thirty miles east of there and love watching and listening to the 130s going over my house.

I live 3 miles East of the end of runway 32...so their flight path is directly over my house. My sis-in-law and bro-in-law live within sight of the airport...love spending time at their house in the warm months and seeing the Hercs take off and land.

OBIO,
They just had an article on the front page of the local paper about our ANG here in Springfield... They train Dutch F-16 pilots and they were hoping to pick up another country, but they opted for DM in Tucson instead.. The Dutch contract is up in the fall and they are hoping to renew it...

The Spartan isn't a bad looking plane...much better looking than the C-21....YUCK! Well, all I can hope for is that someone does a nice FS9 C-27J model in the next few years so I can continue to be a virtual member of the 179th ALW. I will continue to fly the Alphasim C-130 in 179th livery out of KMFD in the mean time though....I refuse to fly a Learjet 35...even if it does have a military designation.
