Mystery Vintage Aircraft ?

There are parts of it that scream De Havilland to me but so far nothing I've turned up looks like it. :isadizzy:
 
When I look at the tail and nose, I agree with T_K this must be a De Havilland product. However I can't remember I ever saw a De Havilland with wheels this size....

Reminds me also of a Stampe S.V.4 but the wing struts are different and indeed the wheels are large. Maybe a Canadian bushplane conversion?

It does look very like a S.V.4 but as you say the wing struts are wrong.

The tail feathers and UC are wrong for a Dr 7.

Looks like something from De Havilland Canada... At least she has some Gypsy Major engine installed - or a very similar one :)

While I never saw a Rambler, it certainly brings back memories. I grew up in suburban Montreal and learned to fly at Cartierville (where the Curtiss-Ried school was based) - in fact about 200 yards from where Dain's picture was taken (30 years later, though).

The C-R school was the white buildings just by the leading edge of the vertical stab. of the Sabre in the first pic.

For those of you who don't know, Cartierville (CYCV) was also the home of Noorduyn (Norseman), Canadian Car (Harvards), Canadian Vickers (Canso) and Canadair. Sadly, the airport is gone - turned into housing developments.

I'll be looking forward to the model - need something to putter around the old neighbourhood.

Yep its a Curtiss-Reid Rambler III as flown in the 1931 Kings Cup race. I think I'll try to make it harder to guess next time :)

I think the airfield is either CEJ4 or CEN4 by ORBX (both free to download)
