I was interested in the PHP2 project.

I thought it would make a great flight in the NATS (Naval Transportation Service) PB2Y Coronado.

NATS flew out of Pearl late in the War and there after up untill???

Shown here.......is the PHP SceneDB.

I do have in the World SceneDB from the PHP2 Oahu.bgl but not sure where Oahu mesh comes from? Maybe original CFS2

Got my PHP at www.simviation.com because I couldn't locate here for some reason.

Looking forward to PHP2. Check the Sticky for PHP2 progress (those New to the system)

The Naval Air Transport Service NATS was combined with the Army Air Force Air Transport Command ATC in 1948 and became the Miitary Air Transport Service MATS. Since the Navy had such a good handle on the subject, It came under Naval jurisdiction.
An interesting note. I once went on leave with $.39 cents in my pocket. I flew NATS from Jacksonville to Anacostia D.C. on a R4-D Got on another NATC Curtiss Commando to Floyd Bennett. Got a ride in a JRB up to Salem USCG station and walked home. I left at 4 in the morning and was home at 4 in the afternoon.

Helldiver,
It used to be easier than it is today to catch hops.
Then the airline industry started contributing to Congressional re-election campaigns and pretty much curtailed convenient hops. Then after 9/11/2001, the military said "Screw it" and started offering even more for military and our dependents. Now, while it is fairly easy to catch hops to some destinations, you need some time on your hands. We went to Europe for Christmas a couple of times. All of the members there are coming home for Christmas so we flew opposite and got right on in both directions.

The USN used to have daily flights from DC area to PR and VI. It used to be fairly east to hop a P-3 Orion, spend a week in PR and come home. Cheap too.

Movies ..........Hollywood post war

The only movie that I can remember that shows how easy it was to get somewhere in the military was.........(and it was not a great movie)......Kiss them for me - Kiss them all

I couldn't tell you the plot.......because I turn the sound off and wait for the military hardware shots......(Let us not forget Jane Mansfield......of course.......she was the show piece of the entire movie)

But, in this movie Cary Grant, Ray Walston (my favorite martian) and Colonal Klink.......... all were involved in a PBY hop back to the states
