Nav Radio issue

Having a nav radio issue. I use the radio from Milton's Beech 18 in a lot of aircraft as I use ADF for most of my navigation. And the Beech 18 radio has a 2 ADF setup that comes in handy. ADF 1 is working fine, but when I try to change the frequency on ADF 2, FS locks up. I checked the radio section in the aircraft.cfg and there was an issue with ADF 2, but I fixed that. But I still can't change the frequency on it without locking up FS. It works fine in the Beech 18 though.

Most puzzling. Any suggestions?

Willy, what plane are you having the issue with? I'm assuming you modified some other plane's panel to use the Milton D18 radio. Or is this happening now with the D18 itself? That is an odd problem. I'd like to try and duplicate it.

Have you deleted the radio gauges in the original panel? I'm wondering if there's a conflict between two gauges.

It's the Aeroplane Heaven Seafire III. I did remove the original radios some time ago and replace them with Beech 18 unit. Yesterday and before that, it was working fine. Today, when I go to change the frequency on ADF 2, FS locks up. It was working fine in the Beech when I tried it earlier after I found the issue.

The frequency is on 400.0 when I start up the sim. It should have been on 302.0 from when I saved the flight yesterday. When I got to run the frequency down to 302, it goes to 395.5 and locks up FS. I can go up with the frequency and back around to about 200 where it locks up again. I use the ADF as a homing beacon on my carriers and all the frequencies for those are in the 3xx.x series.

Going to try and copy the gauge .cab file direct from the Beech 18 panel folder into the Seafire panel folder and see if that does anything. Back in a few.

Okay, just tried it again and it's still locking up FS in the Seafire. And it's still working fine in the Beech 18.

Here's the radio sections from both:

Seafire:
[Radios] // available, standby frequency, has glide slope
Audio.1=1
Com.1=1, 0
Com.2=1, 0
Nav.1=1, 0, 1
Nav.2=1, 0, 0
Adf.1=1
Adf.2=1
Transponder.1=1
Marker.1=1

Beech 18
[Radios] // available, standby frequency, has glide slope
Audio.1=1
Com.1=1, 0
Com.2=1, 0
Nav.1=1, 0, 1
Nav.2=1, 0, 0
Adf.1=1
Adf.2=1
Transponder.1=1
Marker.1=1

The only thing I can see is that the radio as it appears in FS does not have a Nav 2, but that's included in the aircraft.cfg.

Just in case someone spots something that I've missed, I'm attaching the panel.cfg

No answer to issue but remember that FS looks in the FS9/Gauges folder first. If NOT found, it will look for the cab file in the panel folder.

You might check the file date in the FS9/Gauges folder to see if it is the same, or delete the one in the gauges folder and use strictly out of the panel folder.

Which radio are you using?

The 2D popup is the native D18S on the overhead. The other from the VC Icon has a Nav1 and Nav2.

I had no issues adjusting all 3 adf's on both radios.

I'm using the lower one. (I'd forgot about the other as I don't use it). I copied the Beech 18 .cab file from it's panel folder over to both the Seafire panel folder and to the main gauges folder thinking that as it was working in the Beech, it might fix the problem in Seafire, but no luck with it.

I'm starting to lean towards what Tom said about gauge conflicts. I did a couple of panel mods the other day to the Seafire, adding the Nav/GPS function from the Spartan to go along with the rest of the autopilot switches from it that I installed long ago, but the Beech radio also works fine in the Spartan as well. (I use the heck out of this radio in my usual rides) And I'm pretty sure I've used the ADF 2 since that change as well.

And to further confound the issue, I found an anomaly in the Seafire panel a bit ago while flying between carriers. When I went to take a screenshot of the radio, I found this black square. I can move it around like a pop up, but no shift-number key combo can make it close.

Never seen or heard of anything like it

Anyway, I think I'm going to switch planes for a while on this carrier flight until I can get the Seafire sorted out.

Just painted this one a day or two ago and need to air it out to dry the paint...

I looked through your panel.cfg and couldn't find any obvious conflicts, but that doesn't mean much when I'm not familiar with most of the gauge names. I understand the acronyms, but that doesn't mean that there's not more code than the name might indicate.

As for the black square, I've had that happen when I had a windowxx entry in the body of the cfg without adding an entry to the names section. But it looks like those match up in the file you posted.

One observation. I noted that you have Wawind!WindIcon gauge listed twice within your 2D panels.

The first instance is gauge19 under [Window01], and then you have it as a single gauge under [Window09]. I'm not sure what that gauge does, but you might want to try and remove one or the other entry. My guess is that [Window09] might be the source of your black square although the visibility=0.

I've seen this but forget the cause. I do know you can right click and close it those so it is an improperly defined window.

The Wind gauge is one that gives you the winds aloft at various altitudes which comes in handy to find . That's the pop up in Window 9. In Window 1, it's just the icon to pull it up much like other icons to pull up pop ups.

I'm thinking about just going back to a fresh install of the Seafire panel and going from there.

Ok, I sorted out the black square issue earlier today and just now had time to check it. It was self inflicted. I removed one of the popups from the panel.cfg and didn't change the popups list at the top to match what was actually there. So now I know what happens when I do that. :icon_lol:

I'm still working on the ADF 2 problem, but I've verified that it's not the Beech 18 radio gauge. I changed the radio to the very similar default DC-3 radio and have the same problem with it which tells me the Beech 18 radio is fine. I've got something else I want to try to see if it makes any difference. Copy the complete radio section out of the Beech 18 (or DC-3) and see what it does then. Beyond that, I don't know where to look next.
