who can tell me what the handpainted number on the nose of this one means:

and whether it was on both sides or just on one?

and are you happy with the middle blue color?

I think on first leaving the factory on a delivery flight such a temporary marking was often shown, based on the makers construction number, or the last three of the c/n. This picture shows squadron makings so I don't think the temporary number would still be displayed?

I agree with Harry on that. I'm pretty sure I've seen photos of various types of aircraft, including B-24s, with these temporary numbers, usually at the plant prior to air testing, or being ferried out to the active squadrons.

You may think so, but this pic proves otherwise, and I've found more like this.
I've found references to construction numbers, so apparently they were rushed into service...

here's an update: I thought it would be better looking with the numbers on both sides of the nose, as I have found pics with these numbers on either side of other aircraft:
