Nearly free Aeroplane Heaven Lancaster..

The only place in town that carried PC Pilot stopped carrying it that exact week that I decided to buy a copy of it. I had seen the magazine time and time again, but never bought it. Then one evening while grocery shopping, I thought I would pick up a copy to check out and the magazine was no longer there. I have looked every month for it, and they no longer carry it.

I haven't seen that magazine in quite some time now. There is a bookstore where I live that used to carry it, along with "Fly Past", a British publication that I enjoyed immensly. Would like to know if there is a not so distant galaxy I can go to and still find PC Pilot. Alot of places have chosen to not carry it any longer.

Hmmmm....I wonder if AH, having issued it free via Pc P, if asked nicely (very), would allow the Lanc (and maybe other freebie files) to be uploaded here at the SOH?

I can't remember the screen name for one of the AH team members that used to post here (remember the Mossie marathon! :d). He might be watching or maybe PM him?

Cheers

I get the mag and tried (note tried) uploading the lanc, but it's the only one that doesn't come with an auto installer. I haven't got it right yet. Followed the read me, but still have wrong sounds and missing gauges/VC. Almost gave up trying. Will try again when I have more patience.
I'm sure that eventually I'll get it. Usually I don't have these problems manually installing anything.
Hopefully it'll be worth it in the end.

Most Barnes & Noble bookstores carry PC Pilot in the Computer Gaming section of the newsstand. For the FlyPast fans we carry it too, among the aviation titles in Transportation.

Thanks AG43,
Bazzar has been active today, so I've PM'd him with the idea. I can understand the Lanc being here (if agreed to) but I think the other freebies would be best left at AH to attract people to their site, with the chance some may buy other products.

We'll see....?

Cheers

Is this the full pack of Lancs or just one 'demo' model :ques:

The lancaster has not disappeared from the AH store yet..

Yes, that would make sense if they put out the demo, and had you rush to the AH store to buy the full version. Good promotion tactic. I couldn't see them giving away that masterpiece for the price of a magazine. But if I'm wrong....oh boy!! I always wanted that package, just never got around to getting it til it was mentioned here!

A single-version demo would be fine with me, since I rarely fly more than one version of any particular aircraft anyway. I usually end up picking one favorite and deleting the rest to save space.

It is one variant only i.e. the "Upkeep Dambuster" version with the bouncing bomb. It is also not true FSX as there are no bump maps and other FSX specific features etc. With the exception of one or two items the textures are nearly all .bmp i.e FS9 type bitmaps.

Still for it to be issued as "Freeware" is a nice gesture and it certainly still looks good and flies well. Thanks to Baz and AH for the gift. :ernae:

Just confirmation that the PC Pilot disk contains Both FS9 and FSX versions of the Lanc and that as you might expect they are the same "Upkeep-Dambuster" variant. As stated in my previous post the FSX version is a portover but looks and flies fine. The attached screenshot shows the variant in case anyone is in doubt as to which one it is. Again, thanks to Baz!

If you all are interested, Des Braban and I collaborated on a Merlin Sound package for the Lancaster, and I recorded the sounds myself off of the Canadian Warplane Heritage Lancaster. It's at Flightsim.com. Look for

lancsnds.zip

Hope you enjoy!

Hi people,

We have had a few requests for the Lanc outside of the PC Pilot mag.

Unfortunately we can't oblige as this was a one-off arrangement for PC Pilot, obviously designed to attract readers to the mag and hopefully subscribe. I really don't think we would be very popular if we were to release it free, elsewhwere!.

However, as I have noted in another post, our working arrangements have changed somewhat this year and the ability to build and support our own software has diminished considerably. This means a thorough overhaul of the site will soon be necessary as the chances of us upgrading our stuff anymore are pretty slim. That's not to say that the Lanc will not be built for FSX, it is just that it will probably fly beneath the Just Flight banner rather than ours.:engel016:
