Looking at NW Falcon and to spend about $5000( either I spend it or my kids will) and would like your input on what to get and what to avoid.

I would not ever build my own.

THANKS CW3SF

Have you called and talked to the folks at Falcon NW?

A friend of mine bought a computer from them some time ago. He called just to ask a couple questions and the guy spent 2 hours on the phone with him. That's crazy service for you. I would bet any of their Mach V systems would blow anything away (especially one worth five grand). I'm not guru enough to tell you what to avoid or get for sure, but man do I envy you and your next computer.

Good luck!

I just got a new Area 51 from Alienware (It arrived just two days ago and yes I am bias towards them, having used another 4 different Area 51 models for the last 11 years) ) and I have everything going at slider level 5 , 2500 X 1600 res. It was under 5K. With a 1GB GTX280 , 6GB system memory, 3.2 I7 965 processor and two terrabyte drives.

$5000 !!??

Wow, not to be rude but that seems ridiculously expensive (to a cheap-skate like me, heh) when for about $1200 you can build a computer that runs OFF very well. What do you get for the extra dough?

Is it just me?

I hope you're having great sucess with your rig, however you do yourself a BIG Favor, by backing down to 4 on the terrain and scenery

The Human eye can't see the difference Now

But I assure you, if you leave it on 5, you will. A week should do it

good advice, will try it.

FalconNW makes great PC's, but there is no reason to pay that much money for what your getting. I don't know why they mark it up so much, but you can get the same components for half that or less and build it yourself..... Take your system printout and go to NewEgg.com and start adding it up... Have fun!

He doesn't want to build it himself. I wouldn't either. I agree FalconNW is overpriced, though. You can get an Alienware for less and it will be just as good. I've had no complaints on my Alienware laptop or service or help from Alienware and would recommend them highly.

Yeah lol, the 5000$ is more than i payd my porsche.

Btw. I have bought just new computer. The BHaH works better with Nvidia cards. More memory is better. The Sli and crossfire (2xgraphic cards) cant use both very well in OFF. I have heard they use only 1 card.

Not to mention the fact that using two cards does not double your memory capacity. IOW two 512Mb cards in SLI only gives you 512Mb of usable graphics memory, not 1024Mb. With the advent of the 200 series Nvidia cards, I think SLI is on it's way out anyway.

About 5 years ago or so -- I checked out Falcon NW, Alienware & Hypersonic. I bought Alienware and never have been sorry. That system has been completely rebuilt once and upgraded a number of times since.

I had the same good experience with Falcon NW because I called them too and they spent quite a bit of time with me on the phone. In the end though, I got just as much computer from Alienware for quite a bit less money. Alienware has given me good service too.

Oh whups! I missed the "I don't want to build my own" line.... My situational awareness is faulty, perhaps something to do with the last 5 flaming wrecks I previously called my machine?

What about IBuyPower? I know they are cheaper, but does this kill the quality to a point of becoming unattractive and slow?

I really think FalconNW, Alienware, and Voodoo PC are all making good on their names monetarily. I seriously don't get the reasons for marked up prices.

I'd say a lot of the money for a company built computer goes to all the overhead they deal with---form the tech support to the guy who sweeps the factory floor. Shame you won't try to build your own, the $$$ savings is to great not to consider. It is about as difficult as wiring a stero into your car, actually running cables through a car is harder!!! I had an alienware build years back, and I still used that same old case for 2 rebuilds. So it looks like one, but its not. However in the original config it was a good machine in its day. I had no problems, or complaints. I would stay away from SLI as I agree its on its way out, as there is no real gain from it anymore. GTX 200s are very nice, and quiet. Other than that I would shop for an Intel cpu, AMD just is not what it was.
