Need Advice

I'd go with the first one.....it's pretty close to what I've got ( few complaints compared to FSX ).

Tom, I agree with Clutch. The i7 quad chips are best. You can also plug the HDMI into a big monitor and run the computer from there and use a standard mouse and keyboard with the monitor setup off to the side folded up. Powerful computer.

The i3 could run it, but it would be slow. You want a quad i7 to really fly it.

And... if you can, see if you can get it with an SSD. I know funds are short lately, but man, you cannot believe how much more faster an SSD HD is.

HD4000 graphics are good but not great on most Role playing games but for FSX it just simply sucks! You need a laptop with the Nvidia GeForce card in it for running P3D or FSX. The following is a review done at notebookcheck.com.

Verdict

Overall, we are impressed by Intel's new integrated graphics core. The manufacturer has solidly improved over the previous HD 3000 by a rough average of 30 percent. This difference can be even greater at 30-40 percent if the GPU is paired with a powerful quad-core Ivy Bridge CPU like the i7-3610QM. Even the top AMD Llano chips cannot compete with the HD 4000, at least in our benchmark comparisons above. Intel has the upper hand by about 15 percent or more compared to AMD's Fusion Llano offerings.Perhaps more impressively, the Intel GPU beats the now ancient Radeon HD 7450 handily. Because of this, one may have to ponder if low-end dedicated GPUs from AMD or Nvidia would be a viable alternative at all.Casual gamers who can live with low resolution gaming, disabled AA and subdued graphical eye candy may find the HD 4000 perfectly fine. The GPU is not future proof, of course, as users looking for a more middle-of-the-road offering should look towards systems with a GeForce GT 640M or GT 650M.Regardless, Intel has delivered admirably with the HD 4000, at least from an integrated GPU perspective. While obviously not a threat to anything higher than a mid-range dedicated GPU, low-end options from AMD or Nvidia can potentially be in serious trouble. Since integrated GPUs make up the vast majority of notebooks out there, Intel can essentially capture a large chunk of the graphics market away from competitors. With AMD Trinity rolling along in the next few months, however, the tides can turn just as easily if the new Fusion core can both impress and dethrone Intel from the Integrated graphics market.

Ted

here are benchmarks of good to great AMD and Nvidia laptop cards:

high end core i5 is fine with a really good video card, i7 is ideal but more expensive.

Unfortunately, the budget is pretty much fixed at $500, give or take a few. My wife found this though - it's Win8, but I suppose I'll have to migrate to that sooner or later anyway...

Bill, our flat screen TV has HDMI input, so I was planning on running a cable across the floor for that and setting the display to "extended" (if possible with that type of output).

Should work. I can link in my iPhone with an HDMI cable to the TV and its so nice. The computer is 1080p though, so its not crystal clear, but man, it is huge!

Just an FYI - Prepar3D v.2 does not officially support Windows 8. Doesn't mean it won't work/run with it but there may be issues that crop up.

I'm lost and in need of advice. Wife bought me a new I3 16 gig ram 1tb drive w8 64 machine. She had a computer shop person replace the PSU with a 700W and placed a new nvidia GTX690 4gig video. So what hiccups will i have to deal with??

Hi,
can you tell me what your having problems with? I think we need a little more information about your computer specs, and which version of Prepar3D (1.4 or V2.0) your hoping to run.

Regards,
Ian.

Sounds like it will do pretty good CG, especially with that graphics card. i7's are a bit faster, but this all around sounds pretty good.

Right about now I wish I had this computer on base with me in Cuba lol. Instead I have to wait for the other one a hp my wife bought from Wal-Nuts to get back from the HP warranty repair Center. I blew up W8 64 and the Motherboard went nuts and the HD rejected W7 64 lol. Discriminating OS HP Computer. lolol. Good thing it was under HP Warranty.
