Since I have to rebuild my flight sims especially fs9 I could use a little advice on scenery addons to buy. I have the older stuff that was hey in the day but I want to up grade a bit.
Any suggestions? I need water, mesh, clouds and what ever else.

Links will be helpfull as well.

Thanks in advance to the advice!

Tom

I suggest for water, this one: click here

It is the only one I have seen which can provide realistic sun reflections in FS9. Frames are good as well. I have it and for me it makes flying over water become more pleasant.

Not to put you or anyone else for that matter off from stimulating the economy, but have you looked through the "making FS look great for free" thread at the top of this forum ???

I used most of these for my CalClassic version of FS and the results are just about perfect IMHO.

Cheers
Stefan

It's a great pity the GeoRenders and Orcas Island are no longer sold... those are by far my favorites!
Now, for environmental stuff, there are only two things you need (besides the freeware mesh you can find at the usual sites):
REX (Real Environment X) vFS9 (about $35) http://realenvironmentxtreme.com/fs9.html
Ultimate Terrain USA (about $35)

I also love anything Holger Sandmann has done, so get Glacier Bay, Tongass Fjords, and the Columbia River Gorge.
Finally, get stuff by FlyTampa. Love it.

BTW, you did say 'buy' right? There is lots of freeware stuff I use too, but the two environmental addons I mentioned are so awesome that I consider them indispensible and vital expensive though they may be.

Payware scenery? Look for Flight1's Ultimate Terrain series, Tom.
Canada, Alaska, Europe. Massive bang for the buck.

Hi Tom, Again payware, but for the UK you can't do better than the output from the UK2000 stable. The original country-wide sets may be a bit long in the tooth but most are still excellent and gradually being replaced by the "2nd generation" individual airports. And just recently there is a superb rendering of IWM Duxford - for free ! Alastair

1. Mesh - FSGenesis, so much better than the freeware and will make a huge difference. 60% off sale currently so you can get a year downloads for $40. There's a lot of 19m stuff plus worldwide buffers. My FSG mesh is over 70 gig.

2. Ground textures - Ground Environment (Pro for extra features) at Flight1.

3. REX as stated above for water, clouds, sky, etc.

4. Ultimate Terrain as stated above.

5. Local stuff depending on where you like to fly. My fav is the Pacific Northwest going north so there's FSaddon stuff (Victoria+, Vancouver+, Misty, Tongass, Glacier Bay. In WA there's Columbia river gorge and the Okanagan by Holger Sandman Plus Rainier NP 1.1 at Avsim. Other parts of the world have different programs.

Freeware; HDE clouds by Pablo Diaz can't be beat, Rhumbys world mesh, Vilk's Vater with an oceanheightfield by Bill Lyons work well together, and any of a variety of better sky textures are for the downloading

Payware; Second the Ground Environment as worth the cost (IMHO), ditto for Ultimate Terrain.

Happy Rebuilding :icon29:

'Godzone' stuff for New Zealand

I recently bought it. Good stuff. But Robin Corn took it off the market and will do only fsx in the future. He plans to someday make it freeware.

One freeware scenery, a photoreal Christchurch/Canterbury originally made by NZScenery, has disappeared. If anybody knows a valid link or can email it to me I'd greatly appreciate it. I've posted on the NZ forum but nobody has replied.

FSGenesis is way better. And cheaper. Not only do you get high quality lod 10 and 11 but all the buffers. Justin is still working on more areas. I have 70+ gig worth of mesh. FSGlobal has less than half that.

wow! You guys are right on it! Maybe I should pull my head up out of the watery depths of aircraft design once in while and see what is going on in the scenry bizz...lol

I will pull out the ol cc tonight and get some good stuff for sure. From the looks of things, fs9 is right up now so all we need is a designer or two to build real detailed air craft fo r it and its going to be real awesome!

Maybe I should start a freeware fs9 high detail aircraft design team...hummmmm...

Maybe you should! Man, that'd be great!
I trust you've heard the news about the new ability to shoehorn infinite polys into FS9, right? If not, go download the bull stearman from simviation and buy lionhearts latest product... there are exciting potentials to be realized!

To add to this, REX is on sale for $17.50 this month :)

That's a hell-of-a-deal considering all you get.

Thanks but all those links are dead. I've been trying to get it from the NZ forum with no luck, even emailed Lawrie Roche (snowman) and Robin Corn but they didn't have a copy.

:applause: Hooray for Tom :applause: Nice to find a designer (other than Lionheart, who is da man) that doesn't dismiss us as a bunch of worn out old luddites!!
