Hi

I've have put in another video card recently and now I can't get CFS3 up and running

CFS3 Configuration
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 4.14.10.8198
CFSConfig could not determine your hardware's configuration. Try reinstalling Combat Flight Simulator or updating your video card drivers.

When starting CFS3 I get this error message:
The configuration file is out of date. Please re-run CFS3.

I have followed these steps:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813732
but the problem remain.

Any idea what to do? :isadizzy:

Thanks!

I would try and update the drivers for the new card just to see if it helps

I've had this problem when I changed video cards. All you have to do is run the CFS3 cfg. It's still reading and looking for the old card.

Hi

Thanks for your replies.

I’m running Windows98SE and 81.98 are the latest driver available for the Geforce 6800 and were released in December 21, 2005.

<All you have to do is run the CFS3 cfg>

OK but when I do run the CFS3 cfg I get this message:
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 4.14.10.8198
CFSConfig could not determine your hardware's configuration. Try reinstalling Combat Flight Simulator or updating your video card drivers.

The GeForce 6800 is the card I recently put in.
What I’m I doing wrong? :isadizzy:

Cheers

Hitting cfg always worked for me but I'm running XP.Have you uninstalled the old drivers from the other card?

No I didn't uninstall the old drivers. I only followed this instruction:

Method 5: Are There Multiple Adapters Listed in the DirectX Diagnostic Tool?
To remove multiple video adapters detected on your computer, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type dxdiag -ghost, and then click OK.
On the More Help tab, click Inactive.
Note: If there is not an Inactive button on the More Help tab, multiple video adapters were not detected on your computer.
Click an item in the left pane and then click Backup.
Repeat step 4 until all the items in the left pane are removed from the Inactive window.
Click Exit to quit the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.

I test uninstalling the old drivers to see if it helps.

Thanks for your help!

Cheers

Check to make sure it is reading your new card

Go to the CFS3config

Click file

Click change Display Options

Change Device box appears

Under Adapter, see if it is showing your new card , or the old one

You should be able to pick in the drop down box

Forgot to add , Any time that you make changes in your CFS3 config

Always click Ok
Click on file
Then click exit, This will save any changes you may have made.

Hi again

I’ve uninstalled the old drivers and new drivers, cleaned the registry and removed all traces of the drivers. Installed the new drivers again.
Didn’t help.

Uninstalled CFS3 and installed again.
Didn’t help.

I’ll try IMS_LIGHTMAN’s suggestion next.

Thanks!

Hi

Under Adapter the new card is displayed OK.
I click Ok and File Exit.
It didn't help.
I've done this many times before but it doesn't help.

Doesn't CFS3 like Geforce 6800 cards?
Never had any problems before I put in that card!

More suggestions what to do, please?

Thanks!

One last thing. Unplug all devices and power cables from case. Pick it up and move to garage. Find the biggest sledge hammer you got and........

Oh wait. That didn't work for me...never mind.

Two links to try from their site.

Direct x 9 installer

And also a driver archive link for previous versions. Maybe try using an older version of the driver.

Oh and another thing. It is really important to get everything out when uninstalling CFS3.

Go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\ and manually delete any CFS3 folders there.

Go to My Documents and manually delete any CFS3 folders there.

Enable "view hidden files and folders" Go to My Computer. Click on Tools then folder options then view. Look down the list and make sure "show hidden files and folders" is checked. Click apply and OK.

Now go to C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Microsoft and manually delete any CFS3 folders you see there.

Go to desktop and delete any shortcut icons that are there. Empty recycle bin. Reinstall game.

Cheers

Yes, I deleted those CFS3 folders after un-installing CFS3.
CFS3 is not the only game I’m having troubles with so it might be that GeForce cards don’t work well in Windows 98.

Which is totally normal, as Windows98 is a derilict OS. Better move on to WinXP Pro mate!

Interesting, the card has drivers for Win98. CFS3 is Win98 compatible. So what is the road block.....

Try one of the archived drivers that is in the link I posted.

Perhaps the latest driver version has issues. Try an older driver version and see if that helps

Hi

I’ve tested these driver versions: 81.98 72.72 71.84 66.94 61.76 61.21 60.86

Since CFS3 complains about all Windows 98 drivers I have tested I see no other way than installing Windows XP. I can put in another video card off course, but there are not many to choose from if it’s going to be equal or better than the 6800 and still compatible with Windows 98.
