NEK Required?

Some aircraft from this site have in their readme's : NEK and Avhistory required. Is the NEK really needed because I have a Fairey Barracuda from the British section and it performs just fine in the stock CFS3 without it. Can anyone confirm or deny this NEK question for me?
 
Hi Auto throttle,

The NEK expands the available selection of countires in CFS3 from 3 to 16 (I think from memory).

You dont need it if you happy for say Italian planes to reside in the German list of aircraft, or Australian planes to be in the USA list of planes.

The barracudda works as it should as its linked to one of the stock CFS3 countries (britain). others will be displayed as described above.

the AvHistory weapons pack, this is a must have, with out them your game will lock up when you go to use a weapon on a given plane that is not in your stock CFS3 weapons folder.

If you dont have the Avhistory weapons pack, you could copy the following folders from your ETO install into your Stock install:

weapons
guns
pylons

The ETO has all the AvHistory weapons included, but they are refined, more detailed textures, included some textures that were missing from the AvH set. etc etc

Your advice always helps Captain Winters! I have the Avhistory Wepaks but the NEK redux from SOH is corrupted and I don't want to go to simviation and take three to four hours just do download all the different components. I just wanna fly without the hassle. If only it were so in real life.
 
Quick Question to anyone:

If you get all the NEK Components from Simviation, do you need a Vanilla install of CFS3 to enable them or can you go on from where you are at with addons and fixes already installed?

Will it affect the NEK in any way possible? Advice always welcome.
 
Hi AT,

you can apply the NEK to a slightly modified CFS3 install.

the set only updates the country and pilot information.
