Nepal Mesh.. anyone for the take?

I'm looking for a good Nepalish terrain mesh, but can't seem to find any. The only one I can think of is FSGenesis's SRTM 76m, but it would be nice to have the latest higher resolution raster data for the Nepal region - payware or freeware.

Hi Graham....tired of lagoons and islands?? And looking for higher ground!! :icon_lol:

I only know for FSX are two files (part 1 & 2) done by Frank Dainese: Mount Everest, Nepal, in high resolution, at Flightsim.com.
But also one made by Alain Ragot, though I must look at my hard drive, got it somewhere. I let you know when I found them!!

Besides Aerosoft with their Lukla scenery (http://en.shop.aerosoft.com/eshop.php?action=article_detail&s_supplier_aid=10267&s_design=DEFAULT&shopfilter_category=Flight Simulation&s_language=english), I can only think of Holger Sandmann and Jonathan de Ferranti with their Himalaya mesh though quite detailed (LOD 9 & 10) but made for FS2004....though it's freeware.

Cheers mate!

I checked only the one from Holger, and yes they work perfectly from what I have seen. Unfortunately, I only had the time to check the area around Lukla, so I could see some improvements, but not as impressive as what was shown on the screenshots included in the archives. The fact is that the area is covered by a LOD9 mesh (which is not much but still better than default), and only some spots are LOD10... and I could not find the time to visit those spots yet :p

But in general, FS9 meshes work perfectly in FSX.

EDIT: the archive #2 contains the photoreal textures. I have not installed it this time, but I has it installed on my previous computer and I can confirm it was working very well in FSX too.

@Mark, I'm not into mesh building, but these are good sources to kick-start something once I get the cobwebs off of my head...lol

@Hank, I'm merely scouting around to see what would be a good starting point for the next project and happened by ZULS. That's the northen region of Tibet (China).

@Jeansy and Daube, I've downloaded the files and will check them out. I guess the links provided are for areas around the Himalayas/Mt Everest region only, but I'd like coverage as far as ZULS in the north.

Thanks indeed for all the links and suggestions folks.:salute:

Graham...Really Interesting Video

That must be a spectacular ride.

I went down to KOMH on Sunday morning for the lowest price gas in the area. The sky diving school there runs a Twin Otter with lots of sky divers flying around. It would be a neat addition to your next VFR Appalachia to have an airport with an AI sky diving school. Or, you can do Nepal with that paraglider and hawk! Yea baby!

Ok Graham, I'll check the coverage of the mesh terrain made by Alain Ragot.

Cheers,
Hank

Ok Graham....think you better look what Justin (FSGenesis) has to offer.
I found the mesh files intalled them, but eventhough it was referred to as LOD13...it gave me egg round mountains, in other words...crappy mesh terrain.

Hank

Yep, I have Justin's (FSGenesis) global mesh but don't like the look of it that's why I'm still fishing around.

Graham, I have Global 2010 installed to see how the mesh appears. Gonna make some screenshots for you.

Hank

Huh? Been to KOMH last month but must have missed the sky divers, Jay. I might go back there in the Fall.:)
