Netherlands in ETO: some questions

At first I would like to thank the ETO team for ETO 1.2. I've taken a quick look tonight.
Surprised to see the Rotterdam harbour area has been fixed, we actually did not know (yet) how to do so, so thanks for that (and we don't mind you also included the Maasvlakte, which was not there yet in the 1940's)

The main question is: what missions use what facilityfiles in Netherlands gsl. We need to know before we start renaming/removing/adding files to avoid any problems once W40v2 has been released.

I would say as long as you are working only in era 1 gsl then the missions that are in era one are the ones you should look at and see what the impact is.

However, there may be missions that have been created by folks for their own personal use or multiplay which may be impacted by competely removing or changing the names.

There are other considerations as well. Some mission were built which may not call out a particular facilties file but are an integral part of the mission because they are in the gl and if that faciltiy is removed, changed, or moved could ruin the mission.

If you are talking about work in other era gls we need to take it off line for that discussion.

It will be very likely some ETO items will need to be replaced/removed/renamed such as stations, airfields, lighthouses etc. If you are thinking of another ETO update, it's recommended to use the items created by our team for Netherlands/Belgium and France gsl for all era's, (since we're making the Dutch NJ airfields for TOW as well) perhaps you could keep us in contact about this matter?

WB,

This conversation is likely to start heading downhill pretty soon, but just so you understand our position with regard to ETO 1.2 here it is one more time.

You and your guys can do anything you would like with with the current 1.2 release to create your own free standing addon called whatever you like. You can mod it, add to it, anything as long as you do your release as a separate install and do not release it as an "official" ETO update. The only exception to this rule is that you cannot release ETO aircraft as new standalones without our permission.

We cannot allow or approve your addon as planned to be released as an official update to ETO 1.2 and jepordize the huge investment of time our team has made. Many of your changes will cause wholesale problems with the existing ERAs and other components.

The public will need to understand that your addon is not compatible with the existing Global layers in 1.2 and that other conflicts may be present as well. As long as they keep their ETO 1.2 install pure they will not have any problems and will be compatible with future ETO additions.

I think your work will be a fine addition and enjoyed by many, they just need to keep it separte from their existing 1.2 install and understand that we cannot assist them with trouble shooting with a modified installation.

In summary, use any part of 1.2 you like, do anything you want just keep it separate from ETO 1.2 and do not attempt to release it as an "Official" ETO addon.

Good luck with your addition

Best Regards

im truely lost ....foutes stuff, is excellent is it allowed , then the bobs missions .....etc....

im totally loving the addons and all , but im getting lost in , what appears to be copyright stuff or rules for what we can accept and use

There is no confusion at all. Here it is as simple as I can explain it.

1. Anyone can take the current 1.2 update and mod it, improve it, build missions for it, or add to it.
2. Individuals can upload anything they want as add on to ETO, that includes effects, weather, scenery, there are no restrictions.
3. ETO aircraft cannot be uploaded as standalones without permission.

Any development group can build an add on like TOW or the Dutch addon as long as they do not label it as an official ETO update. The developers should include a read me that details what changes they have made to ETO and what impact it will have on the players current 1.2 install. Their add on should be installed as a new game, if not it will corrupt the current 1.2 ETO install.

However, if someone builds a simple addon that does not change existing ETO components or global layer IE is just scenery and/or aircraft and vehicles etc. then they would be able to install it directly on to their existing 1.2 install with no problems. What the Dutch Team is talking about doing is changing existing global layers and making other changes to the existing 1.2 install and not making it a new or separate installation. Their changes will corrupt the existing 1.2 and cause numerous problems with the work we have done.

Again, anyone can do anything they want to with 1.2 and upload it as long as they fully disclose to the players what it will do to their existing install of 1.2. We would love to see a lot of additions and mods done for ETO, the players should keep one install of 1.2 clean and have a 2nd modded install on their computer.

Does this clear it up for you LB?

Steve

yes , thanks .

id suggest using theta summary for any further , or ones like me that dont get it ..or didnt , and post it over and over...very well laid out and like the motto

kiss...keep it simple , well you know .........

yeeeeeehaaaaaaaa

thanks

LB,

Let me give you some more examples.

1.Lets supppose a mission builder has an idea for a bomber raid and wants to include some new facilities, weather and different/additional effects along with a couple of missions. He can do that.
2. Someone wants to add (not alter) some new facilities/airfields to the global layer that are not in conflict with existing 1.2 install. He can upload this but should include a read me of what impact it would have on the players current install.
3. A builder can upload a new aircraft, weapons, guns, pylons with no problems.
4. A modder comes up with new tracers, explosions and changes the existing guns and flak etc in the 1.2 install. he can do that and let people know what effect it will have on their install.

There are almost no restrictions and most players will want to keep one clean 1.2 install and a 2nd modded install.

Holy Cow,I don't know how much more liberal or easy to work with we can be than this. Good mission builders and tweakers like SPQR33 should have an absolute ball with ETO 1.2. and the latitude never allowed with OFF or MAW.

I should hope that no one has a problem with what Steve has said. There are 3 choices; either work in cooperation with the ETO team; should there be further official ETO add ons; or make additions to ETO on the same basis as all other CFS3 uploads have done; or make a separate (non official ETO) install with all contents having got permissions from the original modders.
Making CFS3 better in mutual cooperation is what should be the aim.

Hi Steve, Led, James, Loverboy, Willem,

At first: IMHO these threads are made because everybody admires the work of the ETO-team. If people didn't care for it, they would not put so much time in this discussion.

Personally, the answer of Steve is cristal clear to me. So a question following the line of cooperation as stated by Mongoose:

Say (as an example): in the future there is un update for ETO.
And say (as an example) moddelers (that could a also work in the ETO-team rigth now) make a new version of a stock CFS3 German airfield in Holland or Belgium or Germany.
And Say the quality of these add-ons meets the ETO-standards and the changes do not effect the other parts of ETO in a negative way.

Would the ETO-team in this case want to consider to make these airports (or light-houses etc) part of the general gsl in a future release?

(To make it clear: I do not want to push you in any direction right now, but only want to now if we can speak about these kind of solutions in the future).

We should all be working towards a common goal. ie. the further development of CFS3. Mods and models should be made available to all (except where special permissions are needs such as some aircraft). 95% of the ETO is free for anyone to use and I hope a similar amount of the Dutch (or any other) work will be similarily available. Whether we put any new 'Dutch' items into the ETO will be down to any of the ETO team having the time to add it, we're all a bit burned out at the moment and the future is uncertain.

The only stumbling blocks are purely technical ones and concerns the Global layer and effects files. Because of this the Dutch add-on, although freely based on the ETO install, cannot unfortunately be a part of it - it must be a seperate one.

Just my tuppence worth

Clive :)

Remcoc,

Anytime you want to make a suggestion or contribution we would be more that happy to listen. You know you have always had my ear and I respect your input.

We have a very efficient team process now with certain individuals covering individual areas.

*For anything concerning the Global Layers in ETO you can contact Clive (Pat Pattle)and the ACC guys that work with him. I think it goes without saying that anything Clive is comfortable with we would be also.

* For all things concerning aircraft you can talk to Rob (Capt. Winters), he calls the shots for us in that area.

* John (Bravo4) works with Rob on what skins are to be included.

*For the overall structure of ETO including the installer, spawn swapper, ERAs etc you should contact Bob.

* You can contact me about Effects, weather, weapons.

* For shipping please talk to Al, (Talon).

* For help with testing and related issues Kasey is the man.

As Clive stated we currently are not planning an additional Add On as we are tired, but who knows what the future holds.

Best of luck with your project.

Steve

Thanks gentlemen for the feedback
