• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

    If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

    Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

The last few days have seen a slew of uploads for Netwings' items. Intrigued, I searched SOH to see if there was a Forum that dealt with it: nada. So I Googled it and, apart from a pile of sim-unrelated links, all I could find were a couple of chaps' 2009 postings bemoaning the Netwings site being down/gone.

Is anyone willing to explain Netwings...and the recent spurt of related activity here at SOH?

NetWings was a sister site to SOH that was owned and operated by Neil W. His health got bad and he couldn't keep the site up so a few years ago, it shut down. Quite the shame really as it was a pretty nice site with downloads that we didn't have in our library and decent forums. And for years we used the NetWings server for multiplayer flying.

If the site is dead, why all the upload activity here at SOH? Can the aircraft, repaints, objects etcetera be used in other sims?

NetWings was primarily a CFS 2 site although they did have some FS stuff as well.
 
A couple of years before Netwings fell, it was thriving, with FsX and Fs9 forums which were pretty busy. I was the Fs admin there from 2005 to the demise so I was privy to most of the goings on. Unfortunately when Netwings was not responding, Neil was not contactable, probably due to illness. The benefactor who paid the bills had pulled the plug and from then until now, people who had uploaded files to Netwings have been reuploading them here. This means that they are safe and this is a good thing.
