Never noticed this until now

The default PA-28 Piper Cherokee 180 doesn't show up in the AC list. I thought the only things that don't show were dedicated AI or an accidental duplicated name. What's up?

They are dedicated AI.

Someone made them flyable, I had an updated airfile once upon a time a couple hd crashes ago.

If you can open the .air file, change the second field to aircraft type=0 (from 2), it will be flyable. The "2" makes it AI and non-flyable. Changing it removes it from the AI list though I guess.

It'll still be used as AI. The AI files include a table that equates an "AC#" with the title lines from the [fltsim.x] entries. The AI Only toggle in the .air file only hides the plane from the UI menu.

Don't forget that you'll need to alias a panel and sounds, since AI planes don't have panels and when they appear as AI they use AI sounds from the main AI sound folder. The panel and sounds from the stock Cessna 172 should be about right.

You may or may not want to substitute a different flight model, a some dedicated AI planes don't fly right as pilotable planes. I don't know if that applies to the Piper. I converted mine years ago, then never flew it, so I have no idea how well it flies.

Have a nice panel and sound for what is becoming a sweet little flyer. Still working on it but a new glitch that prevents my cfg edits to take effect when I reload the plane is slowing things down. I have to restart the game every time I alter something to see what happens. Had this before but cant remember how it was fixed. Notepad is saving things but somehow the new info is not making it over to the AC without restarting the game.

I get that occasionally, it seems to have something to do with how FS reloads the information bits from the various cfg and air files. When in doubt simply load a completely different aircraft and then switch back to the one you are working on.....works almost all the time. Except for model changes which I think FS only loads during the initial startup.

Sometimes I can get things to load by saving a Temp flight and reloading it. This reloads more than a simple aircraft swap, especially for AI aircraft.

Hope this helps,

There's also a command available called "Reload user aircraft" that you can assign a keystroke to. Ctrl+Shift+R should be available for this assignment.

I have been using that, but again this does not always work. I have not found a real culprit for the times when it doesn't. Switching AC however does work for all but model changes.
I have to try Tom Gibson's suggestion of loading a saved flight.

Cheers

I've also found that simply going into the aircraft selection menu and clicking OK (or hitting Enter) is a quick way to refresh the aircraft. The only issue with using a saved flight is that if you change the panel, the saved flight also saves panel status - not just which switches were flipped which way, but also panel/popup size and positions. I have the Alt > right-arrow > down-arrow > Enter sequence down to where it takes about a second to hit all the keys and then I just wait for the Sim to catch up. Every once in a while I have to hit the Enter button a second time because the first one doesn't register, but that's only on the seriously complex models.

It seems to have gone back to working again but when I edit something I now add a light edit too so I can see if the changes were saved. May have something to do with some sinister stuff I found under msconfig/startup. There were two programs autostarting "TINTSETP" which I learned were connected with translating Chinese to English. Most sites list China high on their list for risky domains and associated spamming so I may have picked up an infiltration of sorts. When I stopped those services the computer started faster, the flickers as the desktop neared the end of its loading also went away, all web pages loaded a bit faster and the AC seem to be loading with the saved cfg changes again. No idea if there was any relation but I certainly never asked for any Chinese translation engines. When I get done with the Cherokee I don't see why I can't maybe upload it as a flyable version of the default AI. It's coming along nicely without having to borrow files from any other AC. All it needs is a paint for Pussy Galore's Flying Circus :applause:
