New-bee questions - hope the veterans don't mind

I installed CFS2 for the very first time today with a long term view of setting up multiple installs and shared scenery folders. Now, I have a few questions that have probably been asked so many times before, so forgive me if you have heard it before !

First, is it possible to run CFS2 either windowed (instead of full screen) or on the extended desktop on my second screen (full screen) ? I tried various Alt key combinations (which I thought I'd read about elsewhere - probably on other versions of FS) but none of them seemed to work.

I read somewhere in this forum recently that CFS2 doesn't write anything to the registry, but I found three sets of keys in mine after the install. I'm assuming that these are simply artefacts of the install resulting from my o/s being XP Home rather than a result of CFS2 running.

And please can someone tell me what were the subjects covered by the original hard-copy manual that was part of M$'s original package. Mine came from Xplosiv and supposedly has that manual on disc, but I'd like to be sure whether I've found it.

That's all, folks ... for now anyway. Thanks for your patience and for being a great source of help to new and old users of this sim,
regards,
Ro

Yes.

But to clarify...

If you run 2 monitors and only want it to appear on the 2nd monitor, you will have to minimise it and click and drag across to the 2nd monitor from the first.

If you wish to run cfs2 on 2 monitors you will have to set it up at the start of every mission, and click and drag whatever view it is across to the other monitor.

Yo Ro;

Send me a PM with your email info & I'll send it to ya. (English version in PDF format)
It's just over 15MB zipped so you'll need something like a Gmail box as Hotmail & Yahoo can't handle the size.

Do not post your email info here in the forum.
(for your own protection Bro)

Been trying to get SOH to upload it into the CFS2 section .... dunno what the hold-up is??? (attn: Jagd & Rami)

Collin,
perhaps I misunderstood your suggestion, but I can't drag the minimised app from the task bar - at least, not in XP. With the CFS2 app, the only options seem to be maximised and minimised - no restore.

Dirtman,
check your PM.

Thanks, guys, for your help,
Ro

2 ways to get around this..assuming you have your OS recognising both monitors.

1 Put cfs2 in windowed mode, click on the blue task bar at the top and drag to the other monitor.

2 Go into cfs2 settings and change the screen resolution to a smaller size then your monitor. Click and drag across. Resize.

Remember, you can make various views within the same screen, I have a small viewer on the main screen which faces rear and this has been placed where a rear view mirror would be. My other monitors have different views, left, right, top, etc.

Collin,
still no go. CFS2 insists on loading on my primary screen without a window header bar, and with only maximised and minimised options. It seems my only choice is to use only the primary screen without extending the desktop, and switching from the internal screen to the external one. In fact, MB won't run on the internal screen since it's an odd resolution to such vintage 4 by 3 format software - that screen is 1024 by 600, while the external one is 1920 by 1200. At least this way the panels don't look quite so stretched !!!
thanks anyway,
regs,
Ro

There's a keystroke which will make the sim go from full screen to windowed, on mine its the W (I think), but my set up has been customised a lot. Check in the 'help' files, I think they will be able to inform you of the default key.

Actually, I can have CFS2 start in my second monitor. The intro vid still plays on my main screen, but I can live with that.

Go to settings
Click on advanced settings
Under hardware I have
Primary Display Driver
Vid card (display)
Vid card (display2)

Try display 2, it might work for you.

and the answer is ...

use <Alt> <Enter> to make CFS2 windowed then the CFS2 settings as shown by whitehawk_2009. It works a treat and even applies after rebooting. Tanfastic !

Buzz, buzz - a very happy new-bee. Thanks to you all.

Oh Gawd!!!

- and another "CFS2 addict is born"

It is strongly recommended that you place a picture of your wife / kids / girlfriend / family near the monitors ........

- so you don't forget what they look like!
