New build

I hope you guys went with SATA II HDDs. ;) The ones you've all built sound good. And... DDR3 is the way to go too.

I like the 775 series. Also last time I decided to invest with the new hardware that was released I got the shaft...Moe is mo careful now.

Well I ordered 2 more hard drives, all new Sata cables and 2 more gig of memory....wanna try it at 4 gig first and then 6gig. I have read in some of the OCing forums that it isn't a good idea to use all four memory slots when OCing a MB. I guess I'll find out soon. I should have eveything in the fist of next week. I went to the Asus site and downloaded all the updated drivers and all the newest drivers for the rest of my hardware.I am also thinking of replacing the video card to but I wanna see how it works on this build and two......it cost me to much money to shelf it...lol/

Here's the pics. Yes, the case is bigger than the box fan in the first pic.

that is one sweet case Joe!

Moe, I'll send you my address for your old rig, cool? :costumes::costumes::costumes:

Hi all,
Moe that processor you showed is the one i just got for my new machine. Not got the machine yet as the mobo I bought for it would not run the processor, even with the bios update. The QX9650 was listed as supported by MSI for this mobo.Tried a stock Q9550 in it as well and it still did not run.Got it to run an E6600 though. Was getting an MSI P35 Diamond before this but now it is going to be an ASUS Stryker II Extreme.

Can some one tell me what the real difference is between the QX9650 extreme and the standard Q9650 chip. They both run at 3ghz.
Have I invested wisely or should I have got the much cheaper chip and overclocked.
As to the DDR 3 memory.Yes I have got 4gb by OCZ for this machine

I am colecting parts for my 'New' one too. I have 2 SATA DVD's ( one in this machine) and a 300 gig HD Sata that I;m going to put in the new one. I have had Zero problems with the DVD so far and it's been in for about 4 months.

Ah, the joys of shopping, buying, setting up a new box...

What with things like a 'budget' I had to compromise: Single SATAII drive, Q9300, 6 Gb PC6400. The single drive has been switched to 2x 500 Gb SATAII Spinpoints (RAID 0) for the OS and the original Spinpoint 640 drive is now the data dumping ground.
FS installs happen this week and then if it all works that's it until after the RTWRace is done before I experiment with mild overclocking. So far, Vista 64 has behaved for me (breathing a sigh of relief) so onward and upward.

At least we can all sit around watching everyone else work with their fingers crossed :typing:
