Bought a new Logitech X56 yesterday to replace my ancient Saitek X52. Love it so far, just the throttle feels a little stiff.
Software works fine in W11, so I can program it . Couldn't get that part working with the X52.

But I do have a question: What could I use the three POV switches on the stick, and the two little ones on the throttle unit for? The little thumb button on the stick already controls the pov.

I have the X56. The throttle "stickiness" can be controlled with the friction knob on the left side of the unit. Mine is VERY limber with it cranked all the way to the back. I use the thumb joystick on the stick for panning in exterior camera (I have TrackIR, so I don't use POV switches for POV). I use the round concave POV switch on top of the stick for changing to different cameras and the four-way switch to the right of that one to control elevator and rudder trim. The regular, conical hat switch at the top and the ones on the throttle I use to control the drone camera.

Still, though, I prefer flying with my Turtle Beach yoke and throttle quadrant, so I use the X56 mainly for rotor-wings, small bush planes, and (of course) military fighters.

You'll have to assign a lot of the switches on the throttle and stick. I don't bother with the Logitech mapper and use the one in game. I have about ten or so custom maps for various aircraft.

On my X52 one hat is defaulted to POV and the other I use for elevator trim on the vertical movement and heading bug increment/decrement on the horizontal movement. The third had on the throttle is set for rudder trim.

Thanks for the tips guys. I think I have the most important switches mapped out in MSFS so far. Mouse control and buttons would be nice, maybe I can use the throttle POV switches for that.
One thing that I found greatly improved is the elevator trim, which was all over the place with the old X52, on which I used two buttons for the trim.
Also haven't found a working axis for the spoilers yet, just using a button to activate.

Depending on the aircraft, I use the lower thumbwheel on the throttle to control spoilers (on props it's the mixture/conditon axis).
