Hi

Been installing 9 hours straight!!! :blind:

Just having problems adding redux lighting effects to Aircraft.cfg & Panel.cfg

View attachment 24938

Firstly it asks a file format (ANSI, Unicode, etc) and when I try and save it says "Access Denied"
I am the only user on my PC, so I have administration privileges.

Please help

Ben

ahh its a security thing and just save to desktop and the drag and drop into where you want it.. it was this way is vista.. its ment to keep root files from getting hacked

Or turn User Account Control off. Yes, it does decrease the security settings on your computer, but as most people still don't write software taking UAC into account, it's sometimes the only way to actually use things!

(Yes, you can still turn UAC down/off in W7, it's just in a different place, the same as everything else which was there last time you looked for it but isn't now. ;))

but as most people still don't write software taking UAC into account,

Apparently the main point of the UAC is to get programmers to write software that doesn't require root/admin access. Ultimately this should mean people don't run as Admin all the time which improves security, MS didn't intend it to be some form of uber security itself more to change users behaviour.

Or you can edit the permissions for your FSX (or just the SimObjects folder if you like):

Navigate to your root FSX folder -> Right click folder -> Properties -> Security tab -> Edit -> Add... -> type your Windows username -> OK -> select Allow checkbox for Full control -> OK or Apply.

However, most people are still writing in a way that clashes with UAC, Skippy, preventing people from being able to save settings or even, with many applications, save work they have done in the folder specified by the application.

What Microsoft intend and what programmers/developers actually do rarely coincide, as I'm sure you're more than aware. I've lost track of the number of problems that I've looked up on developers' websites to see the fix as "turn UAC off"... Er... Couldn't you have written it properly for the OSs you claim it is fully compatible with, Mister Developer?

(Note: FSX predates UAC, so even I don't blame ACES for not programming with it in mind...)
