Not really FS2004 related but my daughter wants a better laptop and I thought I might toss it out there for some recommendations. She has an older Dell Inspiron 8200 that takes care of needs but;
*would like something lighter
*with built-in long-life batteries and wireless G
*more than 40 Gig memory / 1 Gig RAM
*no gaming (I know) but music oriented
*wide-screen 16:9

Example: $640, HP G60t, Vista 64, Intel Core2, T6400 Processor, 2 Gig RAM, 320 Gig HDM,Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500 MHD, 15" screen, Light Scribe Supermulti 8x DVD/RW w/double layer support(??), Wireless G, all from HP build-a-laptop site.
Kay folks what is she looking at here?

Here is what I did for my daughter. As a student she needed something easy to carry, quick access, wi-fi, reasonable storage and most of all a long battery life that would last all day in school.

I also pay $4.95 a month for unlimited secure storage online for her schoolwork and music at mozy http://mozy.com/home

ASUS Eee PC 1000HE 10-Inch Netbook (1.66 GHz Intel Atom N280 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, 10 GB Eee Storage, Bluetooth, XP Home, 9.5 Hour Battery Life) Black

I never saw a girl so happy with a computer until I got this and the online storage she can access any time and keep her hard drive free for stuff that she needs fast. Did I mention it only weighs 3 lbs and has an actual 9.0 hr battery life!

Thats an amazing deal Ted!

If she is not going to be gaming, the Apple Macbook (base laptop) might be for her also. Its around $900.00 and you can install Windows on its bootcamp program. They are designed for media and great for students. The screen is smaller then that though. (They have one in full white which the girls seem to really like).

Alot of people shoot down Apples, but they sometimes do not know anything about them. I have studied the heck out of them and they are high quality equipment.

Its alot more then that Acer though.. Thats a pretty good deal..

that Asus is very cute! I'm looking to get my wife a new laptop as well, something tiny and has long battery life. This one looks pretty cool....thanks for the link. A co-worker here a similar one, but her model is the older 900Ha....it's tiny and very portable.

Thanks for the replys. She perked up until she saw the screen size. She does a lot of writing and would like something wider than the 15" she now has. Does that always lead to big bucks and battery drain? She really does need a full desk-top in a lap-top.

Flippin Heck thats cheap!

I just looked on Apple UK and they're selling the MacBook 'From £929' thats $1,500 at the current rate - for a 13in screen! (the 15in comes in at more than $2000) I've been looking at Laptops in the UK for a while now and I have to say that here Macs are just prohibitively expensive (at least for a skint student like me).

On another note I've been looking at the Dell Studio 17, I know it doesn't come with software but with Vista being standard that may be a plus.

I was just at Walmart (land of Wally) and they had a huge screen Dell. I am not a fan of Dells (lately) but this was one huge screen on a laptop. My apologies for not noting the model and price. As you know, nothing is expensive at Walmart, so it couldnt have been much.

Firebar,

Yep, Apple is mostly American and Chinese right now. I see they are having issues on international sales. Sorry about that.

EDIT: Thats what that Dell was, a Studio! I remembered having seen your post. A cool name for a laptop.
