this is the mission that nearly cost him his life
Will asked for voleenteer's to aid him in an early am attack on a german airdrome.with three of his mates and in inclement weather they took off and promptly were separated in the less than viable weather. only one aircraft kept with him as the other two were hopelessly lost and after flying for an hr returned to base. not so will and his wingman.they reasoned no hun aircraft would be about in this weather as did the enemy planes that dove in on them from the sun and the fight was on.
going over the base commanders head Barker obtained permission for the early morning foray to attack a german airfield 30 miles to the east.october 26th,1917:can you survive and return to base?
