New PC? Chillblast Fusion Hurricane

Hello,

My current flightsim PC is on its last legs and so over the last couple of weeks, I've been looking at a suitable replacement. After reading this and looking at that and listening to what people have been telling me, I'm seriously thinking of going for the above mentioned computer:

Cooler Master Elite 430 Black ATX Case
Intel Core i5 2500K Processor overclocked to 4.5GHz
Akasa Nero 3 CPU Cooler
Asus P8Z68-V LE Motherboard
GeForce GTX 560-Ti 1GB Graphics Card
8GB PC3-10666 DDR3 Memory
24x Sony DVD-RW Drive
1000GB SATA 7200rpm Hard Disk
600watt Corsair PSU
Onboard High Definition Audio
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

My budget is limited to £800, so am saving a little bit, but am a little concerned as to the operating system and its compatibility with FS2004 and (perhaps for me in the future FSX). I believe that the best option is to load the sims into their own directories i.e. C:\FS2004 etc as they behave better this way, than taking the usual...Program Files route?

Only thing that really bothers me is self-installers. Sim will be in one folder and they will probably take the usual route. Do I therefore have to just say goodbye to software that installs in this manner? Basically I want to run FS2004 with the Visual Flight VFR Photographic Scenery and VFR Terrain. Although FSX does look a little tempting, wish to stay with FS2004 as am building aeroplanes with Messrs Molyneaux and Horsey at Britsim.

I hope you approve of my initial choice.

Best wishes,

Martin

I tend to trust commercial companies with their installer exe files as often they put essential stuff in the registry of the OS. With freeware installers where I cannot 100% trust the source, I install into a fake FSX or FS9 file, I have created two such files under a c:\Temp\FSX for example and then within that file create blank files for aircraft, sound, panel etc.. Often there is a requirement for an FS9 or FSX exe file, I just copy and paste one from the main prog into its respective folder. Has worked seamlessly for me for years. Then of course, copy and paste the relevant files into the sim.
As regards your system it should have no problems running either sim although I would urge a more powerful PSU for futureproofing if you can spring for one.
