SSD x 2 @ 250gb + 1tb mechanical Hdd

Question: should i load w7 + MS Office + iTunes's + antivirus (avg) + all other non FSX executables/programs on SSD #1 ; FSX on SSD #2 - AND NOTHING ELSE - and Addon Scenery, mesh and Orbx NA (and global if I get it) on the 1tb. HDD ?

Hi,
Once loaded FSX runs in RAM. It seems to me that while flying the least time accessing scenery would be best. As such I suggest having scenery installed on the SSD. I have Acceleration installed on a 64GB SSD and have created a link to the SimObjects folder which is on my hard drive.

SSDs are much faster than HDs: why should speed even be an issue? Install to the other drive if you find it easier to organise, but Win7 libraries make convoluted drives very easy to manage: I'd recommend learning to use them.

I'd say the size of the SSD drives is a factor...ie if your fsx is on a 250g ssd, you'd likely be fine with scenery on that as well. Also, I've seen in the last few days, avg has been hacked, consider Avast antivirus, which seems to score (marginally) better anyways.

Having them on separate drives allows virtually simultaneous Windows and FSX ops. The FSX performance increase is much more evident when using mechanical drives.
SSDs are fast enough that the difference is minimal vs all on one drive. Because FSX allows for Scenery, and, SimObjects(fsx.cfg) to be located outside of FSX, it is simply a matter of adding another SSD when you run out of space...Don

"should i load w7 + MS Office + iTunes's + antivirus (avg) + all other non FSX executables/programs on SSD #1." Yes.

"FSX on SSD #2". Yes.

"Addon Scenery, mesh and Orbx NA** (and global if I get it) on the 1tb. HDD ?" Yes.

**You will find that OrbX products will only install inside the root FSX folder, so you have no choice.
FTX Global replaces your default textures and therefore by definition is in the FSX root folder.

I must admit that I don't see any difference between flying in an OrbX area, where the scenery is all coming from an SSD
and flying elsewhere when the scenery is coming from an HDD.
If you have unlimited financial resources, an SSD is preferable but there isn't much benefit for a very large outlay.

Regards,
Nick
