Hello
My experience is only with IL2 skining and templates . I would like to consider skining here as well and i have the usual basic questions to skiners.

1) where do i find voids .
2) templates .
3) Do i use PS , GIMP or any of the 2 .
3) Final MB size .
4) converter .
5) do i use Kill white for the templates .
6) do i need Bright .

cheers

1. what are these
2. we have none for the most part only if the original art made them.
3. any paint program will work. You will need DXTBmp to save them in CFS2 BMP format.
3. seem to be max 2MB depending on BMP format used during save and pixel size.
4. DXTBmp to save them in CFS2 BMP format. http://www.mwgfx.co.uk/programs/dxtbmp.htm
5. what are these
6. what are these

skining

1) the void is the basic design structure of the aircraft layout , each skin folder has one in the game .
2) with the void you can build the template with PS .
5) this tool removes all the white background in the void while building the basic template which we then substitute with another color for background usually grey .
6) this tool converts from 3 mb to 1mb for it to appear in game .
The resolution i worked with is 1024 res which are 1mb after passing through Bright and added recently 2048 for HD . 2048 skins are 12mb skins which appear as such, the recent patch of the game allows 12mb skins while the moded will display in HD once some files are installed for it to appear as HD called Carmaster . what is the resolution for CFS2 ?
From what you have said if there is no void to build templates or if there are no templates from the CFS2 developer or third party for the long list of add on aircraft post 1999 how do we work ?

You make your templates from the texture or textures you have if your repainting an already made aircraft. CFS2 is maxed out at 1024x1024. 2MB seem to be the norm size of a 1024x1024 after DXTBmp saved the bmp into a CFS2 usable BMP

just downloaded a P47 razorback and i see it has the texture file cut into 4-5 pieces, this is very different to IL2 skining . Is there a tutorial for CFS2 skining ?

You kind of have to make do with what you are given with the aircraft. Repainting can be lots of trial and error...

When you think you have things right save a basic .bmp than open the bmp with DXTBmp and save with one of the formats that CFS2 can use. They are...

DXT1, DXT3, Extended 16 bit BMP 444-4 (Mostly for prop textures) Extended 16 bit BMP 555-5, Extended 16 bit BMP 555-5, Extended 16 bit BMP 565 and Extended 32 bit BMP 888-8 (mostly for gunsights)

skinning

thank you for reps and link , i will start studying and begin trial and error tests .
