Version 5.1 beta 2 of the TrackIR software is now available for download. Changes include:

TrackIR 3 support

Owners of TrackIR 3 hardware with Vector Expansion can now enjoy the newest TrackIR software, including its enhanced User Interface, 3D View, Stationary Marker Rejection, and a host of usability improvements.

64-bit game support

TrackIR can now be used with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of games. This includes support for the upcoming A10-C Warthog from Eagle Dynamics.

Hotkey profile swapping

Rapidly switch between multiple custom profiles, in game, via mappable hotkeys—perfect for utilizing situational profiles.

Camera rotation

Mount your TrackIR device at 90, 180, and 270 degree angles by utilizing version 5.1’s new Camera Rotation feature, located in the Camera tab under Advanced Settings.

Customizable precision mode

Precision mode has been retuned slightly to improve performance. Additionally, the level of smoothing applied can now be adjusted via the Camera tab under Advanced Settings.

Another thing I noticed, which really used to bug me, was the external view being affected by head movements. That no longer seems to be the case. Hooray!!:salute:

I think I might have to give this beta a try. I have been plagued by an intermittent bug for a long time now on both my TIR4 and the TIR5 when I got that. Every so often the software does not shut down the camera when you exit the program and leaves it active with the LEDs on. You have to restart the software and then immediately shut it down again (sometimes repeating this process several times) before the camera goes off.

After installing this update the hardware wasn't found. This was fixed by using the device manager and checking for driver updates, which cured the issue.

Merry Christmas

As a track IR 5 user I have the exact same trouble, I really like track IR but as has been said so many times it really can be a major headache to use, especially when flying fighters as you head is always out of the pit and if the receiver looses sight of the track clip it just goes crazy and shoots to the rear of the ejection seats, I really think it needs new software! Still love it though!

Same problem here Larry and unfortunately this beta doesn't seem to have corrected it.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the heads up on this one.

I have actually only just (Christmas Present ....) aquired TrackIR, so 5.1 is the first time I have seen the software.

Its an awesome bit of kit, but I am at first finding it a little bit hard to figure out. I don't think their website is amazing at giving help on setting up profiles etc to use it, does anyone here have any recommendations of places to read up to get the best out of this great piece of hardware? What works well in a default Cessna 172 does not work well for me in a fighter for example.

Any suggested sites to read?

Hope you can help.

Cheers,

For me, this is a case of having too many "toys" for FSX, and not knowing how to use them.

I've had TrackIR for years. Never really used it much. Also bought EZCAM a couple years ago, and the combination of the two really gets me confused.

Have attempted to configure EZCAM to work properly (i.e. disable the keyboard commands as directed by the manual). But there are so many options within EZCAM, that I get too frustrated, and simply shut it all down.

For example, now that I reconnected TrackIR to my system, I see that it works with EZCAM. But when I try to look down at my panel, it won't let me. I can look left/right, but not down. Also, even though I disabled the Pan function of my joystick within FSX, it still works when I have TrackIR on with EZCAM. Don't understand THAT one.

Easy for me to get frustrated with so many buttons/switches, etc..... Wish there was an easier way to get things set up.

I rely on Track IR. I tried three times to get EZCA set up on my system, and it sort of worked, but with so many bizarre behaviors that I finally gave up on it. It's a great idea but I'm not sure about the implementation, and was concerned about breaking something if I left it running. So at the moment it's Track IR only for me. The current beta version sometimes behaves badly (is difficult to uninstall, loses settings unless I run it with administrator rights, on launch informs me that another instance of Track IR is already running even though it isn't) but so far I can manage to work around it.

I'd love to have smooth-running toys but I suppose that's a pipe dream...

Of course it's confusing, you're a cat!
