New videocard..

Ferry_vO

Retired SOH Administrator
Yesterday I ordered a new videocard as my old GTX275 was in need of replacement. I ordered an ASUS GTX560 Ti yesterday afternoon, and within sixteen hours it was delivered!
A huge box with mostly filler material and this much smaller box inside:

I opened it, and out came this stylish black box:

When opened it revealed yet two more boxes with the same styling; the smaller one contained a few wires and two monitor adapters, the bigger one had a CD, manual and warranty card :

Underneath the left box and some padding I found the new card :

And a closer look at the GTX560 Ti:

So I uninstall the old drivers, unplug the computer, remove the old card (Clean the computer on the inside while it's opened up), plug in the new card, put the computer back, plug is all the wires, boot it up and install all the drivers.
Of course I had to run a few tests to see if it works! Crysis 2 works perfectly at the hightest settings, CoD works fine, e
verything works!

Now it's time for FsX! I make a back up of my FsX.cfg, let FsX make a new one, change a few settings to my liking, fire up FsX and...

Well, :censored: :a1451: :banghead:

......

I did fix it in the end, but why can't things just ever work right with FsX...????

:icon_lol:...ahh the joys of computing!
It's not just FSX though, I was having some problems with my GFX in my htpc lately too. I bought a new blackgold btg3595 quad tuner card and was having issues viewing live hd tv through it. Turns out, after a couple of weeks of head scratching, that the latest batch of nvidia drivers were corrupting the hd codec in media center. Going back to an "ancient" driver fixed the problem.

Mate thats such a co-incidence, Ive just 10 minutes ago got back to my house with my upgraded comp, and it was the GTX560 I had installed too.:wavey:

That is a great video card! Sorry there were issues but hey look how much you learned...I know, I know:173go1:LOL
Ted

Ferry, glad you got it sorted, and I hope you enjoy the card as much as I have! I have been running a GTX560 Ti for the last few weeks, and although it forced me to upgrade my CPU, I have been extremely pleased with the results. Evertyhing displays crisp and clear, while at the same time performing extremely smooth.

Just being curious, do you guys have a TFT as monitor? What about flying at night, do you get color banding effects with the 560 ?

Cheers,
Mark

To be honest I really don't know what did the trick, but once I ran my FsX config through this site: http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html it started working! :icon_lol:

So far it looks good John, but I've only tested it for a short while. Will do some more flying over the weekend!

have exactly the same card now with nvidia 275.33 drivers and it's just perfect...never had any kind of problem...
Great card.

Flying over the PNW scenery in real (Lots of clowds and rain) weather with the frame rate heavy IRIS DA42 and I get about 50 fps when set to unlimited. No stutters at all! With the old GTX275 I would be happy with 18-20 fps in a similar flight.. Have it now locked at 30 fps and it hardly ever drops below that! :wiggle:

Same location, same weather but now from the engineer's seat in the back of the A2A B377... Still getting a smooth 30 fps; I'm impressed! :jump:

Just had my first flight and compared to my old GTS250 there is no comparrison, the 560 is absolutely awesome, no stutters at all! :jump: However installing fsx is a right pain, I forgot how long it takes it's 22.00 here now and I've been installing everything I use sinse about 15.00 lol

FWIW, I just posted this in the CFS3 forums:

I've recently mentioned that my PNY GeForce GTX 550Ti lasted but 3 weeks before pukeing.
I had the choice to go with the Nvidia at the exact same price but the Best Buy sales clerk recommended the PNY for a reason that eludes me. When I took it back they were all out of the Nvidia 550 so I went a step up to the Nvidia GeForce GTX 560Ti. The 550 was phenominal but didn't last for unknown reasons. And the 560 is another $125 in price. My sound card was next to it (next to the fan) so I removed the sound card to give the 560 more breathing room and went with an external sound card. I am very well pleased with this 560.

ATTN: Kilo delta,
Are you saying you can't update and run your graphics drivers?

I'm running an old driver (197.45) with my htpc's Nvidia 8800GTX Ultra. With any of the later batch of drivers it breaks the hi-def live tv in Win 7 64bit Media Center. Unlike the 32bit Media Center,it's not possible to change the h264 codec...as far as I can tell.
I've informed Nvidia about the issue...but I'd be surprised if they rectify the problem.:icon_lol:

I'm currently putting another htpc together for my brother in law and am going with a passive cooled ATI/AMD card for this setup.

Not really a reply on the vidcard, but to your banner......
I was at the MAAM museum two years ago. Really hate i cannot be at the warbird get-together. Love the banner though!

And Ferry, i really like to know how your vid-card is holding up after testing. Wonder if my machine could hold two of them in SLI configuration.
